You can delete the tray and saves folder that are currently in the sims 4 folder. Then copy the backup tray and saves folder from your portable hard drive and place them into the sims 4 folder on your computer. Then start the game, Go to the load button ( the one with the floppy disk image) in the main screen in the game, load one of your game files, play the game and see if it is working okay
