Have the other one get a job with opposing hours so they are bringing in more money but someone is always there for the kids.
I wouldn't do that, because it runs the risk that one or both parents being run into exhaustion. i'd have them explore ways to generate funds without seeking a job and can stop what they are doing to help the other parent out in between ways to make money. it would also allow one parent to get some sleep at an ideal moment and be ready to take over when the other starts getting low on energy needs.
Gardening is a possibility, but realistically with four children, you might not have the time to tend to the garden fully if there are more than 6 planters worth of stuff to get to. so that leaves the likes of painting and crafting at a high level to make any significant money from. it might be best to rotate around when possible to get both of them leveled with any free time left to them, and i doubt that would be much, especially when the babies become toddlers. Heaven help you when that happens with four toddlers wondering around! :D
I think 3 toddlers is the limit for a single parent, that is if you catch each of them correctly on their motives and needs.
At one point i had set MCCC to have six children per mother and set the household size to 25. In that instance where the Tormen's had incestous relations, there were 21 tormen toddlers to deal with from 3 teenagers and a young adult.
Take it from someone who tried that, 4 is insignicant in difficulty to what you could face if your sim parents had two more, so you'll end up with 6 screaming, noisy, chaos causing toddlers and keeping on top of what they do is going to be a real issue! hehehe.
