I don't remember which patch it was but it was a recent one where now every time an elder sim my sim happens to know dies of old age I get a call about it. I understand my sim being sad about a friend who passed away but to have my sim have the sad buff for two days every single time an elder sim they socialized with once happens to pass away is a bit ridiculous. I don't know if anyone else has this issue but I guess for a future update I would love it if my sim only morn sims they were at least friends with.

I find it odd that people are upset over the phone call of pending death as that was a favorite from Sims 2 that people have been requesting since Sims 2 so they knew when an old friend pr relative was dying to get a last visit perhaps and be able to actually get the urn. We finally get it back (we tried in Sims 3 too as some of us liked to be there and get the urn - and didn't get it - so now we get it and you want it gone again? To me that is sad to be denied the urn of an elder friend or relative because sims get sad when their relative is dying. To me it is realistic to be sad and realistic to be able to have maybe one last visit and to get the urn if we are there so we can bury them. So much for getting what some of us ask for after so long of waiting - looks like we lose it again at this rate. I do think a legit cemetery should have came with this request as that is missing and the two sort of go together - perhaps it would have been received better by perhaps some of you who forgot or never played Sims 2. At the present my sims don't have any old relatives so I was not aware it was finally back after all these years of waiting as I started a new game between Cats and Dogs and Seasons because I didn't want issues with all the recoding - so if they stop it I guess if no one had mentioned it I'd never known it came back at all. Sigh.....

Even if you only talked to that sim once and never spoke to them again or it was just a rude sim who jumped in to your sims conversation while they were on a date or out with a friend. After your sims gets these calls, they get the mourning moodlet and are sad for a few days, even if they don't really know them. I don't think they want to get rid of them entirely, just stop them from happening for sims your sim isn't even friends with.

We either have something or we can't as they claim it breaks saves - that's why we can't have toggles and why they went to the trouble to create gamepacks especially for things not everyone wanted in their game. In order for sims to actually get at least a good bye from an old friend or relative it took a patch to the base game - but without a way to toggle them or some how tune them to every single sims relationship would surely break the game.-Tuning down isn't the answer - we saw what happened when they tried to tune down alien abduction - most of us got none at all - and strangely it was all of us that had a playstyle that wanted them. So toggles and downtuning can't be used - as most likely downtuning cannot pick who likes these things or whose relatives are whose or what ever you are expecting in this game. I believe it could in Sims 2 because the game was built with the family tree, with the backstories and with the full memory system. This game though - none of this existed - we only got the family tree after the fact as a patch, There is no memory system for the AI to really know who is related distantly - who is just someone your sim bumped into or what ever. The game cannot read your mind - it works off of what is there to feed it and what the AI is programmed to. The fact they could even do what they did after years of us asking I am amazed - but the fact remains with the way programming works - it really is we can have it or not but we can't have it both ways.

I feel like the solution would be simple, though. Don't completely get rid of the calls. Even for acquaintances, it would be a nice touch to get a call. However, I don't feel that Sims should be getting such a long and powerful sad moodlet over the deaths of Sims who are only acquaintances, especially those that your Sims have only met once. Confirming what the OP said, the way this system works in its current state, all of my Sims are in a constant state of sadness. It really takes the fun out of the game. This is how I'd do it-Death of Acquaintance: Fine moodlet for 6 hours. With this moodlet active, it'll take a bit of effort to get them into another emotional state, but at least they won't be sad.Death of Friend: Sad moodlet for 12 hours.Death of Good Friend: Sad moodlet for 24 hours.Death of Best Friend/Boyfriend/Girlfriend/Spouse/Close Family Member: Sad moodlet for two days.And another thing, toddlers shouldn't be getting these calls at all, plain and simple. They don't even have phones! How are they still getting these calls?!

Same, and it's annoying. The relationship to them is only acquaintances and it seems just as soon as I get rid of the sad moodlet another pops up. I'm tired of my Sims always being sad.

Ah, okay, well thanks for the suggestion @MaggieMarley, but I don't keep any of the backup files for my saves, only the most current version so that's not an option. It's a habit from my toaster laptop days that I haven't broken yet. I most likely could keep them now and it would be fine, oh well... *shrugs*

I could just put a copy of him back in the game if I wanted to since he's a townie from another save I put in this one, but it's not really all that important. I was just curious if there was a way to summon unhoused ghost townies and if they had an urn/grave somewhere. I'm guessing he doesn't have an urn/grave and the only way to get in contact with him at all would be if he invites my Sim somewhere.

I doubt that will happen since he's about ready to be culled according to that last message she received. It's weird though that she would get that message if it wasn't somehow possible for her to 'strengthen his spirit' to remain in the world by going to his urn/grave if he doesn't actually have one.

Oh well, I originally had thoughts of my Sim getting with this guy for his money, he won the Lotto and is/was rich. But she's happily married now, just had a child and I don't believe ghosts keep their simoleons when they kick the bucket anyway now that I think about it more. lol So I really just wanted to know for any future townies that die in case I wanted to strengthen their spirit to keep them around, maybe get their urn/grave, etc. I'll probably just get MCCC soon and be good to go in the future.

P.S. I apologize to the OP for going somewhat off topic. I agree with the sentiment of Simmers in this thread and it's my opinion too that this feature needs to be tweaked. It's too much of a blanket solution that just makes gameplay for some Simmers very inconvenient, frustrating and immersion breaking as well.

I'm already so tired of my sims sad all the time. I have a vampire, consequently she basicly knows everybody, and she's everytime in grief for, at least, 2 person. It's very annoying to have it all the time and bothers a lot the gameplay.

2 days of grief is aceptable for family and very very close friends. Wanna put grief for every person that we met? 2 hours is more than enough.

Depends on how long the moodlet is timed to be there. If your sim is sad for 2 day just calling the sadness hotline once will do very little. You would have to call multiple times and cry it out a few times. I did notice if a sad sim interacts with another who has the compassionate (empathy?) trait from Parenthood they can comfort the person who is sad and that helps. Also if you live in a house with a parent and their child or dependent is sad they can use the, "You will be okay", option in the menu and that helps a lot as well.

I am playing the 100 baby challenge and have 30 children so far. Now the previous siblings are starting to die of old age and everyone in my house is constantly mourning. It is almost unplayable. 2 days is excessive, and when it finally ends, everyone's phone starts ringing to indicate another death, triggering another 2 days of the very sad moodlet. It is so frustrating. And why do toddlers mourn for two days anyway? They are too young to know what's going on. I am strict about the rules so I have no mods or cc, and I don't cheat. Not sure if this is the right place to post because it looks old. I will keep looking.

Me too!!!!!!!!! It's really awful. They all walk around to sad to do anything for days. I hate getting that phone call!

Same here. Also if you work and one of the captive dies of old age. They should be moved to a prison once in a while as you get a steady influx with the ones you capture.
