My Trip To StrangerVille
Okay, I was not excited about this new game pack. I was unhappy about the theme and the new world. But after seeing all the new B/B assets I decided to go ahead and purchase the pack. My thought was I wouldn't play through the mystery and be content to have some new building options. That lasted all of two days. I was curious how the world looked in real life so wandered into StrangerVille to have a quick look. I realized it would make a good sub-hood to Oasis Springs and it had some very interesting views from the higher lots where the Roswells live. I looked for a way to turn off the story line, but none of them worked. If I wanted to have a normal town to add into my library of worlds, I had to play through and solve the mystery.
First of all, the devs deserve a high five for creating something quite unique and fun. I suspect they added the new B/B and CAS assets to prod more people into buying the pack. Well, that idea worked when it came to me because I purchased the pack because of the new assets! I believed I would never put the effort into solving the mystery. Once again I was wrong.
They kept the mystery's storyline simple and direct. I liked that because I decided to place two active Sims into the world and was able to easily go back and forth between my two main households while my male Sim went about solving the mystery while romancing my female Sim. I took my time with it and am very close to solving the mystery. I liked the idea there are no Simoleans involved which required my Sims have regular paying jobs which made the story last a bit longer as spare time to solve the mystery was hard to find. The special effects are very good. The cavernous underground rooms beneath the secret lab were so cool to explore. And I enjoyed the little touches that made the compound have a sci fi vibe. And I hope this isn't a spoiler, but that creature is a bit scary.
All in all, if you have been on the fence about buying StrangerVille, take a chance and buy it. Even if you don't solve the mystery there are some very nice building objects in this pack. I especially enjoyed using the listening devices. It was new gameplay that really added some depth to solving the mystery. And the new animations they assigned to the infected Sims are hilarious! After being so negative about this pack I had to post this because StrangerVille is a fun pack to add to your gaming library. It doesn't take long to solve the mystery, there are interesting Sims to meet along the way and the new assets are very cool. And I will be eating crow tonight with a dash of steak sauce on the side. B)
