Let me first say that I actually do LOV playing the SIMS. Since the beginning in 2000, I've been playing. Through all the bugs, ups and downs, indoor weather, crashes and the like, I've never stopped playing. As a 60s gal, the Sims is my digital Barbie and I get to "play with life." I've also played every iteration thereof, from PC, Wii, Mobile to Handheld. I introduced my son, sisters and nieces to the game. My nieces and baby sister are simmers to this day. I have cousins who also have been playing since 2000. The Sims helped me work through my cancer diagnosis, hospitalizations, surgeries and intense chemo-cocktails.
That being said, I must say this. I have come to a sad conclusion as it relates to these manipulative "events." I detest them!!!
There may be new players who think they need them, but if you just take your time, you will learn how to play. Making mistakes and learning is part of the fun. With these six (6) week events, we are now forced to unnecessarily wait for each weeks activity. This is actually an imposition because gameplay is interrupted.
Instead of forcing gamers to log-in weekly (which is the manipulation), why not give us the option to complete the entire event at our own pace. Let me explain. The duration of availability would still be the six weeks. But instead of waiting weekly, simmers can complete the entire event immediately, if they so choose to do so. I am sure there are tens-of-thousands of simmers who would complete it immediately, and move on to our regular, uninterrupted gameplay. Who knows, that number could be exponentially higher.
The creation of The Sims was ingenious. It's continued success is proof positive. This idea has a 25 year life with no real end in sight. And there are several game companies who wish they could be The Sims. (Paralives & Inzoi are two we know about.) They can try, but they will never be or replace The SIMS.
EA/MAXIS, hopefully you will rethink this whole "events" thing and allow us to get back to enjoying our gameplay without these exercises in rank manipulation. EA let us enjoy this one of a kind game, Playing with Life at our own pace. Focus on fixing code, adding new content via packs, etc. But please, stop these burdensome, six (6) week, events.
Thanks for letting me express my personal opinion.
Just Keep Simmin', Simmin', Simmin'. . .
