Negative emotions NERFED, emotion system needs rework ASAP

My sims are experiencing negative emotions. Last night while I was playing my sims were sad a LOT. They were either sad from being bad at winter sports or sad from shared sadness. It was actually bothering me a little that they were sad so much on the wonderful vacation I had planned for them. I use the Meaningful Stories mod though so I have no idea if that helps or not.

I think that helps because I use that mod to.

I think that helps because I use that mod to.

It does help a lot. I use that mod too in addition to slice of life. My current save is a huge one with lots of extended family members, friends etc...The main household I use is an 8 sim one and it’s none stop drama all the time! Lol but it’s how I like to play. I could never go back to vanilla because I don’t like the utopian feel and Sims auto defaulting to happy.

Shouldn’t be needed but I suspect they’ve made the game this way. Sentiments are helping but I can’t say how they actually work without the mods.

I'm a late bloomer, once again, and only just started to explore the Sentiments yesterday. I used my Ancestral game save for this, since Erik Cantrell has been married for awhile, now. I have my sixth great-grandparents as teens (they married at fifteen and just sixteen in 1761). I started the game in the summer season, since they married in the fall of the year. I was controlling her only at that moment. With their friendship level at full bar, I decided to have her do a few romantic interactions. I forget just what she did, but suddenly, a small pink bar appeared. And I experienced my very first Sentiment: Deeply Connected. Well, that didn't last for very long. I can't remember what I had her do, or if her action was autonomous, and I may never know, but suddenly, he was telling her she was beautiful, but that he didn't feel that way about her. :open_mouth: This is the woman he held close to his heart for all of his years on the Earth!

I came to the boards, and happily a kind player suggested I just need to give them time. I took the advice to heart. I rolled back the game save, and controlling him this time, I experienced four Sentiments, each growing upon the last. Deeply Connected; Close; Adoring; and Smitten! Now, that's more like it. I do have the latest Slice of Life mod installed, but I don't think it had anything to do with it. I will find out, I suppose as I go along.

Today, however, I will likely give my Global Superstar the much-needed vacation. I just have to figure out if toddlers can come along, or if I need to speed up the aging process, first.

My sims had a roommate they both held a grudge against and she was ruining their lives by just existing. They were tense, angry, and sad quite a bit at home. I kicked her out cause they just seemed to be having the worst time with her, even though I didn't see the negative conversations they were having. It's funny cause before this update I probably wouldn't have cared if their relationships were in the negative, but the sentiments made me realize my sims didn't want her around. I don't use meaningful stories as an additional note.

@poisonedsodapop Do you enjoy the current state of the Emotions system in the game? Do you find it balanced enough?

I agree that we need an overhaul. While I haven't yet been able to thoroughly try out the sentiments, the fact that we are still missing negative emotions like Fear, Worry, Anxiety...means that Sims cannot have complete experiences no matter what is built on top. And there needs to be serious attention to balance when making any current tweaks to the game. That's something that Sims 4 has failed to do from the get go.

But the Sentiments system so far seems to be a good step forward toward adding depth to what's already there (despite still leaning excessively to positive experiences). Now if they can just fill in those blanks (seriously, Fear is one of the most common emotions, why doesn't it exist?!) then I think the gameplay would make a world of difference.

I might have to keep my enemies real close to have my sims stop doing that

My BFF Sims couldn't stand each other anymore due to Sentiments. They were both in Uni but at different schools. And one mocked the other for her choice of school. The second sim then developed a festering grudge and could not bear having the other around (being roommates she was always tense or angry)
What was weird though, the first one kept using mean interactions although she was always happy (as she did mit have the festering grudge, also no mean or evil trait) She has the gerade traut but wasn't actually angry in these moments. It was very random. It seemed like she was just playfully mocking the other, who did not take it so lightly at all although she did not act on her anger and tense feelings.
I wasn't too happy about that actually but I rolled with it. Sometimes even the best of friendships fall apart over miniscule things. When the boyfriend of the second sim came around and proposed to her (of free will, i did not control him) I made her move out with him. Now they are almost happy all the time being engages and in love. :smiley:
The two original sims are still friends albeit not BFFs anymore. Maybe I invite her to the wedding and see what happens then :sweat_smile:

I do not have the meaningful stories mod or slice of life. Only MCCC which I guess is responsible for the voluntary proposal.

In another save I have two roomates where one is a neat-freak. The other is often sad because her friend experiences bad emotions. I find this hilarious. She lets her plates sit on the table for days and then is sad because her roomate is tense because of all the dirty dishes she has to clean again and again. And she is inconsolable while the other washes the dishes and is fine, she is moping around.

I actually want my Sims to be happier. They still look zoned out when they’re doing fun activities like snowball fights. I want more smiles and laughter.
