Never go to a birthday party if you got invited

I'm confused. Isn't it the one who invited the sim to the party the one who ages up (not your sim)?

Some of these responses make it seem like that's the case, while others make it seem like it's working as I would expect. If I accepted a birthday invite, I would expect no less. Naturally the one who invited should be the one to age. Isn't that what birthdays are for?
