Some of these responses make it seem like that's the case, while others make it seem like it's working as I would expect. If I accepted a birthday invite, I would expect no less. Naturally the one who invited should be the one to age. Isn't that what birthdays are for?
Yes, the sim who invited you will age up. There should be a caterer who bakes the cake and you do nothing. It is possible to age up another sim of your choice through the cake, but from my experince things go with less hassle if you just follow the plan and let the birthday sim age.
