New game (not sims 5)

Correct. And it was the same with the 3 Sims Stories games that were marketed as much more laptop friendly than the Sims 2 was.
But the real explanation is instead IMO that the much smaller sidegames are meant to attract new very young simmers to the Sims games. Those young maybe soon-to-be simmers aren’t expected to have expensive stationary gaming computers but likely only cheap laptops for their schoolwork. So EA wants to offer them smaller Sims games which don’t need a strong computer.
But exactly therefore I think that EA now instead just want to offer them mobile Sims games for their phones and the Sims 3 (which is quite old now) as their starting Sims games until they are ready for the Sims 4.
