I think this is great and I'm definitely interested. It reminds me a little bit of a game that hasn't been made in a while called Amazon Trail. In that one, you would sail up the Amazon, stopping at trading cities for supplies as you tried to make your way to a hidden city called Vilcabamba. You would photograph animals and talk with historic figures along the way. There was a really trippy talking jaguar who would remind you in a strange voice that you need to find cinchona. I played an online remastered version at one point in the last year or two and I was surprised by how easy it was to die along the way. It was related to Oregon Trail so you could still die of dysentery or yellow fever while running out of food. Anyway, it seems like someone involved with this might have been familiar with that game. (It's a similar premise but a different execution).
I've been looking for something different and creative for TS4 and this definitely sounds like it is. It's definitely more up my alley than laundry was. I also have some different characters that I could send to that locale for different reasons. One of the families in my rotation is a Hispanic family with 4 kids. The dad was a yoga/fitness trainer turned celebrity fitness guru. The mom was a no nonsense detective who was raised by a single mother and is very close to her family. When the kids are old enough, I'll definitely send at least one of them to that city to explore their heritage and go adventuring. That's just one idea, there are certainly others that I could pack off there for adventure.
