New Maxis general manager said "10 to 15 years of support" for TS4

Folks in the industry used to talk about having successful games that could live for five years. Now we talk about them lasting ten years, 15 years, or more. There’s been a shift across the entire games industry to support and nurture our communities long-term, and we’re committed to doing just that with The Sims 4.

So... if the game reaches 10 years of support, do you think we're receiving everything what we want up to 2024?

Generations, farming, hobbies, occult, bands, sports, hotels, casinos, medieval, scuba diving, horses, cars... d-amn!

  • No she did not say it. That quote is from Samantha Ryan, SVP & Group GM of EA (in other words, her boss).

    It's that better or worse?
  • Support is different to being the main game though, Sims 3 is still "supported" now, 12 years in and it's not the current game. Support just means they'll do a patch once in a blue moon to keep it functional on newer systems.

I think she's refering to supporting the game with new content, because in that case, even TS2 is still supported via Origin... for 17 years (yes, with some tricks for nowdays computers).

When she said "successful games that could live for five years", is refering about DLCs, for example Street Fighter V (2016-2021) or Age of Empires II HD (2013 to 2019, without counting DE or the original 1999 relase).

If TS5 will be on-line or story focused, I think EA will release all what they have before that change that can take years to be a reality, so TS4 will be the last game of the series with this type of gameplay or expansions/DLC schema.

That's why after Batuu they're listening more to the players, because they know if TS4 didn't sells wells or it's abbandoned for past games (mostly piracied) or new proijects like Paralives, TS5 will never happen

Do they actually do that for Sims 3 though? Just curious because it seems like people still have to use mods and follow workarounds to get it to run on modern PC's.
  • As much as I love ts4 their pack descriptions always sound so utterly boring. Bond with nature?!
How about ride on the back of a dragon as you explore galactic universes?
Fight of hordes of zombies sim style and rescue survivors?
Explore the secret life of mermaids in an underwater adventure?
Put together the best dance group or band to receive first place in competitions?
Go through generations as you bond with the little ones teaching them bike riding, building tree houses, skateboarding and much more?
I could go on and on but no point because I guess I'll just bond with nature???

I don't think that's what she meant though, that would be a strange thing to say in the interview.

I would argue that the sims3 is barely supported, they only update it if absolutely necessary.

    @Babykittyjade

Dragons can be added in a Medieval GP or dedicated dragons SP

Zombies can be a storytelling GP like StrangerVille or a Supernatural EP

Mermaids can be added as a World Adventures like EP or a Scuba Diving SP, with a new kind of mermaids and enhancing the Island Living ones

Parties, competitions and other celebrations... Generations? Freetime?

Yup, there was an update for Sims 3 in October so that it can run on newer Mac operating systems
