I love your gender options and I love making my non-binary and trans sims, but I would really like if sims could have some extra pronoun options. Especially since I don't know many non-binary people who use just she/her or he/him pronouns. I use they/them and he/him depending on my gender fluid days.If they/them could be added into the game that would be amazing. Can't speak for other languages, but English has the pronoun 'it' which while used mainly for inanimate objects can also be used in reference to young children, as in, 'help the child form letters by taking its hand and forming them' (from a British source). Perhaps that would work since sims aren't living beings, they need all the help they can get, and we are spared looking for words nobody but a select few would understand.

This would be nice to have, but oh my god the amount of files that would have to be modified is colossal. Any text string containing a he/her choice would need to be altered, and that would be a massive undertaking. It's sadly not as easy as just ticking a box.

This isn't something I personally need, but I certainly wouldn't mind it being added as I'm sure it would really mean a lot to many players. Anything that makes our sims more distinctive and the game more inclusive is always welcome. Plus it would be optional, so everyone can be happy. I'm also really glad how versatile the gender options are in TS4 now. Gender is such a complex thing though that I'm unsure it can ever be done 'perfectly'. I've been doing some research into it in an effort to understand better and I still feel ignorant. I don't think I could refer to my sims as 'it' though - I know they're not alive and it is just a word like any other, but they're like my babies so it just feels wrong to me. :D Perhaps for simplicity sims can just be referred to by their name rather than adding pronouns? I think my sims usually are anyway.

The game mostly avoids using pronouns - generally, it uses names - but there are times when using the name would be too repetitive. It's a bit of a sticky wicket in English - we can use 'they' and 'their' in some contexts (and yes, it's perfectly correct English), but in others, it doesn't sound quite right. I think, however, that in most cases, it's perfectly clear that 'they' would be referring to a particular Sim, not a group of Sims.If I see 'Kate just caught a new fish! Check their inventory!', I would understand 'their' as a pronoun substituted for 'her' or 'his' to avoid identifying Kate as male or female. I think I'd find it less awkward to read than 's/he' or 'her/his', and 'their' is actually more gender-neutral, inclusive of people who think of themselves as neither or both.At the same time, you've got Sims in many languages, and I agree with kwanzaabot - it would require a lot of editing. It's not just a simple substitution - in English, it would also affect the verb - you can't say 'they is', even if you're referring to one person. 'He is' has to change to 'They are'. In other languages, you have to find a similar convention, and it gets more tricky when adjective endings have to match. (And let's not even get started on inflected languages.) On the other hand, some languages are easier - in French, a possessive pronoun matches the thing, not the possessor.Probably something to think about for Sims 5 - it's the sort of thing that needs to be done from the start.

The pronoun is they for non-binary genders in The English Language and used as a plural pronoun. When I write both for fiction and original stories I invent new pronouns used for non-binary genders other than they. Since my stories are set in the future or on alien worlds. I get bored and create languages just to entertain myself. I love linguistics with a passion. I could go into a scathing brutal history lesson but it would be offensive to some people and I wish to avoid offending any of you by talking about history's more brutal moments.

Being Half Native American I can say that with some Native American languages there are non-gender, gender fluid, transgender, intersex etc pronouns. I don't feel like giving a long dissertation on linguistics. Sweeden has hen which is from my understanding a gender-neutral pronoun

I did better than google I used a dictionary. You will not find “nibling”, “auncle”, “parsib”, or “pibling” in ANY version of ANY dictionary because they are not legitimate words and have no legitimate value to the English language. There is no debate to even be had here. Reddit is not a dictionary.

just because they aren't in the dictionary NOW doesn't mean that they might be in the dictionary in the FUTURE. At one time "mother, father, house, brother, sister, aunt or uncle or cousins" you wouldn't have been able to find in a dictionary but you can now

That couldn’t be further from the truth. English as a spoken language predates modern dictionaries by hundreds of years. You won’t find a dictionary that excludes the most basic English. That is just not true. As I said, there’s really no debate to be had here. Until they are recognized as legitimate English they aren’t words. End of story.

WRONG Latin predates English, French, Spanish, etc As did Greek, Technically we had 3 maybe 4 different forms of "English" there's old English (Chauncey's) basically its where we get the livestocks name before they're used for food, and then we had Middle English (with some French influence-hence stuff like BEEF, VENISON, etc) and "Modern English" (aka Shakespeare "Thee" "Thou" ) or "Late Modern English" aka (Oliver Twist) so which English are you talking about?

Re : hen mention. It is a common Scottish term when addressing a woman by both sexes. ie: "Are you ok hen? Usually friendly.Glasgow slang.

Off topic: I used to address my dog with the term "thee" as a term of endearment, a nice soft word.

I would love to have another pronoun for CAS. I know quite a few gamers who identify as non-binary and one even requested having this feature in the game since they do stream the Sims 4. I don't think it would be that difficult to implement in the UI too. If we are going to get more representation in the game for all Simmers this is one aspect of things that still need to be included in the base game. Story progression does need to be fixed though for our townie Sims too that isn't just fixed with mods like MCCC because it is even effecting those who like occults too.

I hope that differently abled Simmers are represented in the game too. I have a nephew with autism and I deal with health problems myself. I would love to be able to pass on my love of the Sims to him and my other nephews and niece and have them feel represented in the game both with health and race. I feel like everyone deserves to be represented in the game in one way or another and make the Sims community feel like a community again. Representation in games has gone beyond politics, it is becoming the norm in the industry now.
