New Simmer Assistance

So, legitimate question: How can we better answer questions from new simmers in a more condensed and yet helpful manner? Should we start a "Sim Basics" thread in this topic and refer newcomer questions to that? What would be helpful to those of you who are new to The Sims? Or just refer to "Tips and Tricks" pinned at the top? Is there much traffic there from experienced players?

I think the community tips and tricks thread seems pretty good. I hadn't visited it myself because I didn't realize it was a generic help thread and I'm not very interested in game tricks myself since I'm more of a storyteller. The title could be something more generic, but overall it seems like a fine place. It's pinned and it specifically says "new simmers, welcome" which is good. I would have just one newbie thread pinned for clarity, either that one or a new one with a different title like the “Newbies Question Thread” that was suggested.
  • There are a lot of useful threads here, but they are difficult to find, especially for new users.
  • Yes, most sites have a FAQ, after all. There should be one here, too. What a great and thoughtful idea @cyncie.

What if we started an “Ask A Simmer” thread? It can be for new members, but also anyone who has a one off question they need answers for. We’d have to keep it bumped to the front page to do any good. Or, we can just make sure one of the existing threads stays active and on page one. One problem I see is that, when the board is active with “Do you do this” posts, polls, or fun interactive type things, questions often get pushed to page two before too many can respond. Also, specific searches that are in still open, but old, threads end up with folks necroposting to ask questions or comment, which also doesn’t yield much help, and often gets the topic closed.
  • I am making no sense but, coming from a newbie I would love to have seen a 'where to post' each thread, It is a lot of work but a description on what each thread is about, and what the contents of each section is if that makes sense? as, it is so scary if you mess up posting in the wrong place, and if you think you've done wrong etc. I think this is brilliant and i love the forum but just a few things i'd wish I had seen to help me around the forum better, A post where you can ask and post questions to your sims, A thread where it tells you a description of content of the forum discussion boards sections, and lastly a button where you can easily find the mods
  • @Ellierosex have you read this thread yet?

It's very useful if your still getting used to the forums.

I think some forum sections do have posts like the ones you mentioned, but could be clearer I suppose.

Would a new forum section be helpful? The "Help Centre" just leads to Answers HQ which isn't really the place to ask the kind of questions new players often have.

I also think it would be helpful, @GirlFromIpanema .
And I have wondered why the "Help Center" category is only for the direct link to Answer HQ.
If this category were opened as a place to post questions and answers, it would be convenient not only for new simmers but experienced ones.
But do we need to ask the EA team to make it possible?
