They have updated the save file system so now you can restore from an older backup. (You could do it manually before by renaming the files, but now it looks like you can do it in the save game menu).

Yeah it's a big improvement! The previous hair made it look like sims were wearing a helmet. I really hope the next patch introduces the new hair colors though.
