This bothers me too. It's good for gameplay, but it seems more like a nuisance more than anything when you are doing a sim story and you want things to go in a certain direction. They really need to make this an optional feature.
There are wants and fears potions in the aspiration reward store. One resets your wants and the other eliminates your fears. I know it's not a fix fix but it is a work around for now.
