Not too excited...
Anyone else with me? I usually love expansions and as a Sims fan, I just feel this expansion is lacking in gameplay. The neighborhood and items look beautiful but beautiful items aren’t enough to just...

As a mermaid player, I prefer how mermaids (sirens) are done in this pack, so to me, it’s worth it. They did more with mermaid here than in Sims 3, though I do miss the Kraken call, and having dive lots.
(I tried and tried to play Sims 3, but I just got bored with Sims 3 mermaids a lot, as they didn’t really have much going for them besides the one cool Kraken thing. They didn’t lullaby sims or enchant sims. They were just there to be regular sims, which I already don’t like much in Sims 3, who look pretty in the water... and that’s really it. They were basically just boring eye candy who dried out a lot for me, lol.)
I haven't read about their powers yet, but if it's just about mermaids for some then this could have been a GP as it seems so much smaller than past EPs of older games that offered ten times more in them.
I feel like screaming right now: Listen, while Sims 3 had tons of stuff, still didn’t enjoy Sims 3 that much!!!.
I don’t CARE how much stuff you can put in a pack, if I still don’t like the gameplay or the sims themselves! (I couldn’t get close to Sims 3 sims like I did with Sims 2.)
So what do I have for mermaids? Sims 1 and 2 didn’t have mermaids, and they don’t have some of the features I’ve liked in the newer sims games.
So, guess what? I only got Sims 4 left. Luckily, I’ve enjoyed Sims 4 enough to go over the rough edges.
I don’t really care about past games anymore, and I’m moving on. I’m finally, finally getting some decent mermaids out of a pack that no past Sims games ever did for me.
And there are other content I would enjoy in this pack, so I’m good to go.
Sure, it’s not as much as past Sims, but I’m done with the past Sims, as I no longer like to play them anymore.
So, yeah, I’m still excited about the pack despite the limitations. It’s still a Sims game in that we’re playing dollhouse and taking care of virtual beings, so I’m good.
It looks like there are enough Sims 4 fans to keep this iteration going, so I’m going to keep paying for the packs because I care about my own enjoyment and I actually like the content.
I got the best mermaids a Sims game has actually given us, and I’m NOT going back to the old games where I had to use mods to make mermaids actually fun to play with.
I like Sims 4 too (i like it about 10 xs more than the sliders and flat sims in TS3) No one is asking you to play the previous game. I think this pack is just a bit shallow. Im happy they included all of the things that they did. They were and are necessary for an Island game. But I still think that this pack lacking the depth that it does, should have come after some more substantial gameplay additions. And the team should have found some way to make the gameplay here deeper.Because I feel that with each progression of a series game developers should ask themselves how they can go bigger than before. And that wasn't done here.
Creating mermaids in CAS is a big step forward. But has anyone who is super into them, read about what new gameplay they introduce, that is unique to them?
There are videos out about mermaids, if you want to learn about them.

Mermaids can enchant sims, make them fall in love with them, they do a siren kiss, and have a spell or two that can pull sims down and drown said sims. Their tails also show up in the bathtubs. For me, as a mermaid player, they're much more interesting than Sims 3's (minus the cool kraken bit, but that's rare usage for me). They're aren't bothered by sharks, and they bond with dolphins a bit better. I think I heard they even lure in fish with a song?
Either way, I'm never going back to Sims 3's dull mermaids ever again. (Sims 3 sims in general bored me somehow, and I never could connect with them.) I'm never using mods to play a mermaid ever again.
While I do agree with you, that I wished there were more content in the packs, I am tired of complaining about this fact for the four (?) years of Sims 4. It does nothing, like shouting in the wind, and I'm tired of feeling miserable-and being made to feel miserable by other simmers!-about a stupid video game.
I have an anxiety and depression issue in real life, and I've contemplated suicide several years ago. Sims was one of those games I could relax with. (Though nowadays, I also like to play Hidden Object games and adventure games.)
Sims 3 frustrated and made me cry. I was bored and frustrated. Sims 4 brought me back with its more relaxing feel and being quick to play in the limited time frame I have to play nowadays. It's brought me some joy, so I'm over being one of those complaining about pack content. It is what it is, and I'm enjoying whatever it brings.
Now I got my beloved supernatural, the mermaids, and I continue to be happy.
So, while I do understand the many good points people have about its limitations and flaws and bugs, I am not going to join the crowd in complaining constantly about the iteration and comparing it to older games.
I'm happy, I'm over the older games, and I'm going to enjoy what I can.
Hopefully, Sims 5 or future packs will have more content. Keep up the good fight, but I will not be joining you guys. I'm tired. I want to just play and enjoy the game and other video game series.
