Occult Sims
Does anyone know why there is a lack of them? Did I miss a memo why this is? I really enjoyed this aspect of simming. Does anyone know if there are any rumors of adding more? I am saddened by Sims...

I'm fine with the number we have. I mean, eventually you reach a point where you're creating a completely different type of game.
You mean, the type of game that 2 and 3 BOTH were?
I didn't play much TS3 and didn't play TS2 at all, but I don't think they're under any obligation to remake those two games.
The problem I have with TS4 broadening out in a supernatural direction is that there's still so much missing for a game that considers itself a "life simulation". I can't imagine saying, "Forget about university and vehicles, what we really need are gremlins and faeiries."
Now, if they were to release a standalone title, like Medieval was, that'd be a better option for both the simulation and supernatural sides. Put a different team on it, give it the attention it deserves. I'd play something like that.
Actually, they are under a certain obligation. I, like many others, enjoyed those versions and enjoyed the occult/supernatural sims in particular. So I, and others, bought this version in hopes of seeing how they would be handled in this version. I, and others, don't want a standalone version of supernaturals, we want them in this game, as they have been before.
By your theory, they would have no obligation to make any past packs, like Seasons, University, Pets, any vacation packs or any other packs that were very popular in the past. They just informed us that S4 will go on for at least three more years, so there should be plenty of time to add all of the supernaturals I and others like without forgetting about university or vehicles.
No, by my theory they pick and choose which elements of previous games they want to take forward, and they can leave all the extraneous stuff behind, or at least on the back burner. This way, a game that claims to be a "life simulation" actually stands a chance of realizing that ambition before we all shuffle off this mortal coil.
Well that depends on who is deciding the definition of extraneous. What might be extraneous to you might not be to me and vice versa. That's why I like the way they are doing it. Make packs that they think players will like and let players decide to buy those packs or not. If you think life simulation is limited to human looking and acting sims, then you can do that by not buying any packs with anything else included in it. So, if your game isn't what you want, it's your problem because you made the decision to buy that particular pack.
