How does water collectors work if it doesn't rain?
BTW I think this is a great idea
They actually do not advise using rainwater as it is often polluted. In the eco villages around here most water comes up out of the ground in deep artesian wells - comes right off the water tables and very pure and pollution free.
Usually when you hear collectors (Solar thermal collectors) it is not really just about water - it's part of the equipment that stores the solar power and wind power for power, for heating water (for hot water and heat)- as well as power collectors- that feeds battery towers that then feed into your home power grid when there is a time when not enough sun or wind the battery towers kick in. You never run out of power. My friends parents, down the street powers a huge farm and two other farm houses where her grown kids live, One of who is my friend Betina, with power and still has too much so the excess that their collectors can't hold gets bought from them by the local electric company. So her parents gets paid for their power. But anyway those are power collectors usually.
Back in the 60's when getting back to basics was popular people did have water collectors for rain - but I don't know much about them other than a lot of people got ill from rain water. Until the world cleans up the pollution rain water is not really a good idea unless you can invest in a system to clean up the water. Believe me the answer is simple with artesian deep well. They are trouble free and the purist cleanest water on this planet. We have regular plumbing and it works the same as any house only I don't have to pay the water company for it. LOL. I did have to pay to have the well dug and everything done proper - that's about 20,000 us dollars done right. But then the best water ever from then on - no charge.
