I believe it's obvious to them, but they want quantitative data to make the business case for dedicating engineer resources for fixing the pack.
Yes it's like when a scientific study is done and ppl say they don't need to do a study or research to come to the conclusion. But if you want to make a point it's better to show actual data that can't be disputed.
