Oh, I Don't Think I've Ever Seen The Hunger Bar Go That Red Before!

Harmony woke up hangry. Her daddy took her downstairs and placed her in the highchair, but she didn't much care for his choice of meal. Erik just took her out of the chair, instead. I directed him to give her applesauce. (Animal crackers just wasn't going to cut it for this girl.) He placed a bowl on the tray of the highchair. In the meantime Harmony went off in a snit. I directed her to eat the applesauce, then I saw just how deep red her hunger bar had gotten. :open_mouth: I think Erik may have just won the worst daddy of the week award … Epic fail, Erik.

So, tell me about your moments of … dare I say it? Failure.

in my game the toddlers get placed in the chair but they get taken out right away by the nanny.
  • I normally don't have my Sims put them in said high chair. I have the older Sim make a meal and leave it on the counter, then call to meal. Or, the Toddlers are able to just help themselves, for as long as the food doesn't spoil. I keep on eye on it, so the kiddoes don't end up with a tummy bug, if you will. I never directed Erik to place her in the chair. He did that on his own. Sadly, he's still giving the Tots junk to eat. He used to give them a bowl of potato chips (come on, Erik, really?) so the animal crackers was a bit of an upgrade, but still. I'm about a heartbeat away from removing the last highchair on the lot.
  • I never use the high chair, I don't know why. I guess it's just easier to drag a plate from the fridge inventory and let them grab a plate.

I have however seen the hunger bar that red before. It was a bug that was in my game. My sim went out, the twins went to daycare. Mommy came home and then the twins returned from daycare. 1 twin was well taken care of, the other was so neglected by the day care that as soon as mommy came back to the home lot, the social worker made a visit and took my kids away. Immediately. There wasn't even time to get the kid to eat.

Needless to say, I rage quit that day and made very sure to never stay off the home lot for long and immediately check the toddler needs upon return. It was always just the 1 that had not been taken care of.

That bug was fixed ages ago, but I think I have sims PTSD because I am still in the habit of checking the toddler needs the second they come back from daycare.
  • I don't have a toddler care related epic failure to share, but a bills related one:

In a Family on a Budget challenge my sims were for forbidden to sell anything, the only income had to come from a single part time job. Well, the dad worked as handyman, only on weekends, and they had bills to pay that they couldn't. I didn't care when power and water went out, just played on, because I was somehow under the impression that the repoman only came to collect student debts. Well, I was wrong, and so repoman showed up on the family's door (container) step.
The problem was that I had only two kinds of furniture: the absolutely neccessary basics (not even a bed for everyone, they were taking turns sleeping) and moderately valuable collectables that were gathering dust. For some reason the repoman ignored the collectables and only ever aimed at furniture that my sims needed. After maybe eight or nine "Please take something else"s, he eventually found the only object I could do without: the bees. I allowed that, and I made believe that they stung him all the way back.

    Lesson learned, repoman is real.
  • I'm undecided on whether it's a failure or a humorous success, but my werewolf couple's little toddler Daniel has ended up greatly disturbing a small number of non-werewolf visitors to their home with his frequent howling. I could not figure out what was decreasing their relationships toward him until I realized that howling around non-werewolves who are not Werewolf Allies results in a relationship hit.. even if the sim who does it is a toddler or child.

Somehow, he also taught the dog to howl. I know that neither of the adults did, so it must have been Daniel.
  • I often struggle with toddlers and high chairs. I can feed them eventually, after a circle of putting them in, being taken out, back in.. I often just cook a meal and direct the toddler to take a portion of that meal instead. Only a couple of weeks ago one of my twins got taken away by hunger, and it happened so fast it really scared me after that

It's upsetting and jarring to have them taken away, even if it is only a game. I don't know about you but I get so attached to my Sims and their families. I as playing Pinstar's Legacy Challenge for Sims3 years ago and there was a nasty glitch that when an older Sim tried to teach the toddler how to talk, the older Sim would get stuck on the floor! The mom would come home from work and feed the infant, but the Toddler was also trapped, if memory serves, and even the mom couldn't pick her up to feed her. Yes, even though baby brother was well cared-for, the Toddler wasn't. After a day or two she became quite smelly, understandably, wet nasty diaper. The parents were simply unable to do anything for her. The Social Worker, curiously enough, had no trouble picking the toddler up. Of course not. Gr. She also made off with both children!

This was not a good start to a Legacy, as the children would become the Heirs upon aging to YA. In a very odd turn of events, I managed to find the Toddler in town. So, I at least knew she still existed. The couple ultimately recovered and had more children. One day, years later, they brought a friend home from school, who looked oddly like the rest of the kids in my household. The boy snatched from his crib, had been found. That was way back in the beginning of Sims3. Yeah, it stuck to me.
