I love hearing how other simmers approach attachment! I get attached, but I still leave aging on, even if it's on long, because it's weird to me when everyone is frozen at their current age. It's the same as when I first got the base game and realized there was no weather, so I bought Seasons. And then when I realized there was no story progression, I got MCCC. I just find it so odd when nothing ever changes; it makes me feel like there's no point to anything. That's just me, though.
I started a 100 baby challenge in order to "give myself permission" to let go of my sims. I may get attached to the kids, but I'm forced to let them go of them anyway. Fly away, my baby birds! But... come back and visit your mom once in a while, lol.
I'm not sure what I'll do when it comes time to retire this matriarch. I might not be able to let her go completely. Maybe I'll save her to my library first so I can get her back if and when I start a new save. I rarely save my sims to my library because in my mind they're so integrated into a specific storyline that I can't usually imagine ever playing them in another storyline. But I might make an exception this time. She's lived so long already that she's got mad skills and tons of traits. I think I'd like to keep her around in some capacity.
