Old basic game features that you really miss in Sims 4?

Pool tables!

Setting people as boyfriends/girlfriends or engaged in CAS. Instead, they have to be married or have no romantic connection. Why?

- Terrain Tools.
- Pool Tools.
- Having a building with a foundation and one without on the same lot.
- Wants & Fears.
- Interests.
- Sims having Memory and actually being affected by it.
- Variable Trait or Personality Point expression.
- Teens being able to run away from home.
- Teens getting acne.
- CASt.
- Burglars, Police, Firemen, Repomen, Social Bunny, Social Worker, NPC.
- Sims being able to easily die.
- Negative Outcomes for chance cards and in general.
- World Editing
- Aspirational failure.
- Vehicles.
- Non-Mobile Phones.
- Cops & Robbers, Tag, ETC - Childrens games.
- Personal event animations (first kiss, woohoo, ETC)
- Daily & Lifetime relationship bars, that didn't align between sims.


I'm sure I've missed quite a few.

I miss:

-Sims with unique personalities who react to situations accordingly
-drum sets
-swings
-slides
-teens that look like teens, act like teens, and have teen places to go
-being able to filter Sims according to family relations
-being able to change the aesthetics of the world by adding/removing trees, rocks, and landmark type objects
-terrain tools
-no item requirements for venues
-Sims that are attracted to any object in the venue, not just the ones on an arbitrary list
-cars and carpools
-chaise lounges and reclining chairs
-relaxing on the bed
-kissing, cuddling, and spooning on the bed
-kisses that look like kisses
-standing make outs
-making (or not making) the bed
-cheap showers that get freezing cold if someone flushes the toilet
-toilet seats lids that can be shut and female Sims who complain when they're left open
-daily maids that had a purpose because houses actually got filthy, often.
-flies and cockroaches
-the ability to be demoted or to unexpectedly lose a job
-being able to hand the baby to another Sim
-babies that aren't attached to a crib
-dirty diapers and stinking bottles left all over the place
-landline phones and newspapers
-pop-up chess tournaments and bbq contests.
-report cards
-grocery stores
-having a house with a foundation while also having outbuildings that don't
-children that can play games without requiring an object
-objects of normal size
-CASt
-Create-a-World
-doorbells
-the ability to move/replace lots
-honeymoons
-dancing together/slow dancing
-dates when other Sims don't horn in
-having to wait to find the ideal job
-parties that succeed depending on how much fun the guests are having

That's just off the top of my head.

I miss:

Visitors allowed lots

Edit town

Placing lots in unusual places, such as on cliff tops, on the beach, or anywhere around the world in general

Being able to build whatever kind of lot I wanted with objects that townies would use, such as a fishing park, a swimming pool, a lodge near the waterfall, a hotel, cafe or guest house, etc

CASt and being able to recolour clothes and build/buy objects (I REALLY miss this!)

Watching and arranging sims to meet up at the bistro, town hall, beach, restaurant or the cinema and actually spend time together without wandering off

Cars and bicycles, garage doors and driveways

Self employment

The consignment store

The cemetery

Visiting other sims houses without a loading screen

Taking a gardening, handyman or cookery course

Seeing sims sitting outside the bookstore waiting for my sims to chat to

Buying property in town and making simoleans from it

My sims running around the countryside at night

Pushing a pushchair down the road

Babies that were not tied to a crib

Terrain tool

Postman, paperboy (I don't miss the burglar!)

Sims dancing together

Sims reading a book and actually keep reading it for as long as I request them to

The school and the school bus and seeing children walk into school

Taking a sim to meet another sim from work

Being able to switch from one sim to another no matter where they are in the world simply by skimming across the landscape


There are many other things that haven't come to immediately to mind but I'm sure I will think of more as soon as I post this comment!

Edit: Oh yes, perhaps a little unpopular but I miss the rabbit holes (more especially the modded rabbit hole mats and/or doors which allowed me to build my own building but with the rabbit hole functionality) I loved the ambience of the music which came from the bistro and diner.

Basic features I miss:

-set time for a social event
-swings
-lounge chairs
-burglars
-firefighters
-watching TV while laying vertical in bed
-swimming in the ocean
-terrain tools
-ponds
-house phones
-vehicles (cars, taxi, carpool, school bus, carpool, etc.)
-garages
-picnic on the grass
-CASt

There is probably much more, but this is what I could think of now.

Ooh, there's one other thing that I dearly miss:

In TS3, I could zoom in on different body parts, not just the sims face. In TS4, I can't get a good look at tattoos, jewelry, and especially shoes. I keep zooming in to see these things and TS4 keeps taking me to the face. It's so frustrating.

And number one most wanted feature: the ability NOT to keep losing time with my other Sims when I'm controlling a Sim on another lot. TS2's way of dealing with this was to stop time on the home lot. It wasn't elegant. Yet, at least, I didn't lose precious time with my other Sims. TS3's open world made controlling all family members a breeze. I miss that capability more than anything.

I mean, at least they added the option to 'meet new kids' at school since the game came out, but it's still extremely lacking. I don't really understand why they got rid of some basic features.

yes I really miss these things

The four things I miss the most is NPC's that have been in the game since Day 1, carpools/school bus, consequences for actions, & challenges!
It's hard for me to believe that we still don't have a fireman in this game after 4 years. Or burglar or police. I think this game is lacking in that area...too many classic features that we've had since The Sims first came out is missing. Carpools falls into this category as well. We've had carpools since The Sims first came out. I will never get used to watching my Sim just walk off the lot. Even though the carpool isn't a deal breaker, it added that touch of realism to see my child Sims get on a bus or adults go to work. Yet, the Devs create this way deep intricate Laundry system....& this is just my opinion....it's freaking laundry...clean/pristine, warm/dry, damp, etc....all these combinations that you can have for laundry or a talking toilet that just doesn't make sense....like laundry was cool to add, but how much of the budget was spent on this way deep system that could have gone elsewhere. I understand that not all features carry over from iteration to iteration, but to cut out things that have been in every Sims game since the beginning & focus on stuff like a talking toilet or super duper intricate laundry system....just doesn't make sense to me.

As it relates to things missing that affect my gameplay....consequences is number 1 on my list! I don't know how many times my Sims will get into a fight to just hug each other a minute later or a spouse will cheat & they'll have a happy conversation 2 seconds later. This game's selling point from the beginning was emotions & the Sims in TS2 had more emotion than our Sims have now. For anyone that played TS2 will probably remember the fury system....where if you had another Sim mad at you....don't even think about trying to hold a positive conversation...& the angry Sim would steal your newspaper, kick over the trash, etc. Now...I'm not saying it has to be over the top...but y'all get my point. Just react & stay in that emotion for awhile. My Sim cheated on his wife & she caught him....& she went over to him & slapped him! I was like 'yes, finally'. I haven't seen something like that in my game in forever! But then she went over to hug him autonomously & I'm like 'noooo, you're supposed to be angry, don't hug him'.

& then by challenge....what I mean is that for me, this game is way too easy! I think the earlier versions of the game were more challenging. & I think they were more challenging because there were consequences for things. It wasn't easy to make friends. It wasn't always easy to have romantic relationships. It wasn't easy to make money. Raising kids & having a family, had their challenges. Not to keep going back to older games...but TS2 is a great example. If a Sim you were trying to be romantic with didn't like your Sim or there was something that turned them off (turn ons/turn offs)....good luck on trying to get that romantic relationship to work. I could go on and on by how TS4 is too easy....but using something as basic as relationships gives an idea of my perspective.

Lastly, I'll add that I miss danger! Even with some of the things that are considered "dangerous" in TS4....it's too easy to fix the problem. Like the poisonous dart in Jungle GP. I was like 'yes finally' my Sim can die of poison. But oh no, just buy the antidote on the computer & you're all good. The only danger that I love that I think TS4 did a great job on is the Pufferfish. My teen Sim died from that & it caught me completely off guard. I think the game needs more of that kind of stuff.

- open world (including sims in your household always being controllable)
- CASt
- consequences
- cars
- teens being recognizable as teens (in behaviour, in heighth and in looks)
- emotions being a result of social interactions and circumstances

I think there’s a lot I could deal with in this game if it weren’t for those - for me - essential features.
