On what sort of a community lot does a Cinema work best for you ?
i wanted to make a community lot with a Cinema so i downloaded one from the Gallery & it is set for General which results of course in no sims using that lot aside from those i am directing or the current club, it feels & actually is totally empty
what are your experiences with a Cinema on community lots ? does it function at all somewhere ? do i have to use mods to make it better work maybe ?

I use it in my game and it works pretty great, personally. Lots of sims show up & they do what they're expected to do: watch movies & eat things.

in the mod notes it states :
I also strongly suggest that you disable "Uncompressed Sim Textures" even if you have a strong computer, because the game will crash if there are too many sims with uncompressed textures on.
i use uncompressed textures, the nice look of this game is the minimum of advantage it has over the previous, by removing that i would remove one of the reasons i still play it
maybe i will test that mod nevertheless, if only to experience it as a comparison cause currently it looks like a cafe is indeed delivering sort of cinema functionality, so i think this will suffice
& i think as @"Marley V" wrote, it indeed depends on the building style
i've built now my own cinema with only two rooms to watch movies & one small cafe area it's not highly realistic that way but not too odd either & that's enough for me
i remade The Blue Velvet Nightclub into my cinema, works fine if someone wants to download it, i's in the Gallery & is named Cinee :smile:

@Cinderellimouse I like your idea, I might try that. I have a out door Movie Theater, I did put in a popcorn maker and drinks in the Ref. I have it as a park, and put in a playground for the kids and chess. It works well. Many do come and they sit and watch a movie. I do like the Movie stuff pack, in fact I love Game pks and stuff pks. I like that they are a nice price. Opps I don't us mods or CC. but your theater sounds nice.
You could do it without the bar too. It works well selling the popcorn and memorabilia in a retail venue and it works fairly well as both a customer and business owner. I had this Sim who used all his money to buy this old, run-down cinema. He lived upstairs in the office! And he was doing quite well from popcorn and poster sales (you can use the movie posters that came in the patch and the movie pack). Sims would autonomously go and sit down and watch the giant telly too.
I've just been looking at the Voidcritter cards from Kid's Stuff and I'm definitely going to add them to my cinema shop!
I might try your idea of running an outdoor one as a park as well. It'd be great if we ever got cars!

do the sims prefer to use the screens or the bar to order drinks ? or do they use both ?
My cinema is set up as a bar, and patrons use everything there.

I used a ton of cc, but you can do it without. For the popcorn it's a bit tricky to set up. You have to have your store owner prepare it, then tell them to grab a bowl but as soon as they grab it cancel the interaction! You have to do it before they take a bite. Then you can drag it into place and set it for sale. If they take a bite you can't sell it. Once it's in position you can restock it from the little sign after it is sold.
For the merch shop you could just use the movie posters and any decor that looks like it could be from a movie. Kids toys are good, like the superheros. Just pick whatever you think is suitable and set it for sale. :)

Lounge. I built one to look like a church that was being used for a community center, and put the mic up front with the big screen on the wall. It's rather humorous watching the poor entertainer on it doing an act while everyone is just watching the movie on the screen.

hm ... thank you for your input i understand that it can be amusing, though it's rather a tragic & probably just short amusement, because how often do you actually visit that "cinema" with your sims ? & yep, i think if that entertainer would be the tragic clown it would be even more tragic :cookie: but i indeed wanted just a somewhat normal cinema, not its screwed parody & if there is a bar, the sims probably prefer to sit at the bar & chat & order drinks they never get :naughty: i had then to hide it in an inaccessible basement maybe ... so many buts to get something working ... what a game :tongue:

The decorative popcorn bags in that image are by Around the Sims who has a great cinema set! But I also sell bowls of edible popcorn so I can buy it when I visit as a customer, and those are not cc. I think Treelife Creations might have buyable popcorn though, which would be easier to set up, they have a lot of buyable food.
Generic or park is fine (especially if you make an outdoors one). I mean people don't go dancing, drinking, etc...at the movies, so I don't use nightclubs or bars as that is a little weird.
