This is exactly why the players should have gotten to choose their own weather systems, like in the other games. Such a cheer of celebration went up in the community when EA said that they were creating weather systems for each world. But my response?

No two people see their worlds alike. EA is having so much fun designing the worlds that they're leaving nothing for the players to do.
Someone at EA has forgotten that the Sim worlds have always been the digital equivalent of a box of Leggos. Now, it's more like a mass market jigsaw puzzle. We get to play with the pieces and everyone has their own method of putting them together. But, in the end, we all end up with the exact same result.

The thing is that from what I can tell, what they mean with that statement is that they gave each world weather, not that anything in the code makes say Windenburg incompatible with "long hot summers and rainy winters". Just put the defaults in (as they are) and then have a three step slider for each season in each world with pre-configured weathers for each (which is basically what they have. "Cold and clear, cold and foggy, mild and rainy, hot and rainy" etc for winters).
That said I would still prefer the vacation worlds to have set climates. - I really wish each town could have its own season and not just each save. It would be nice to have summer in Oasis Springs while having winter in Windenburg at the same time. I suppose I can use the weather machine to change the seasons each time, but it ruins the gameplay a little for me. I have to put a weather machine in most of my sims homes or at least one in each world. Then also have sims with a higher handiness skill. Both things that I sometimes dont even want my sims to have. I guess the only issue would be with the calandar since they are based on seasons instead of months. (Which also gets messed up if I switch seasons between towns.) But hey! If we can have different climates and weather simultaneously in the real world. I have hope we can have it in our beloved Sim worlds. I love Seasons otherwise. It's a nice refresher to have weather and it gives the whole game a more life like and exciting experience.
- Cynna10657 years agoSeasoned Ace@Beardedgeek, yes, I agree about the vacation worlds. I don't mind set weather systems there.
However, in residential worlds, the player should get to choose. I don't care for the ideas of "default" weather systems because, again, what EA imagines for a world may be totally different than what I imagine.
For example, one of my favorite worlds from the last game was Lucky Palms. There was just something about that place that I loved. However, I also love snow. So, in the winters in my version of Lucky Palms it snowed. It snowed a lot. I didn't care if it was realistic or not. It's what I wanted.
I wish that the Sims teams would provide more opportunities for the players to choose. They sound like they're having a blast creating the worlds. I want in on that fun, too. - Another thing I don't like is that seasons are either 7, 14 or 28 days long. Even 7 days is too long I my opinion, I wish I could set seasons to be just 3 or 4 days long, since I usually don't play with the same save game for a long time, I usually get bored after a while and create a new one. I don't think I have ever played for 28 sim days in one save game because I get bored before that. I guess they put 7, 14 and 28 as the only options so it doesn't mess up the calendar system since holidays always fall in the same day of the week and seasons always start on Sunday and end on Saturday.
- Beardedgeek727 years agoSeasoned AceHeh, Perfect length for me would be 20 days :)
- I wish there was options we could set to vary each season separately - and maybe even possibly a longer option than 28 days. Maybe 42 days - as I don't care for having to change up things and my surroundings so often - and I play presently at 28 days.
I also think the weather related deaths are too harsh and too often. I mean I live in Maine where it gets darn cold in winter' and very hot with often bouts of high 70 -75 + humidity in Summers (like an overheated sauna) - and even here hot or cold weather related deaths are pretty big news and always make all of our news channels top stories. They (weather related) make bigger news than almost any other deaths - so needless to say in real life it is unusual enough to have just a few such deaths that it's big news - A IT DOES NOT HAPPEN FREQUENTLY.
Also no body in their right mind would go out in freezing temperatures with out warm clothing - you just wouldn't unless you were so young you did not know better or mentally impaired in some manner. So appropriate clothing should be automatic - but with an option for say deviate players to perhaps - to shut off the appropriate clothing. We should not have to turn it on.
It is still great to allow us to choose addition clothing in these warm and cold lists if we wanted more than a default outfit. There should be - 3 - weather outfits defaults in my view - not 2 - cold, warm, and rainy weather outfits.
Father winter also needs said defaults seeing for some strange reason his regular outfit still allow him to freeze to death. He's a special character - so why is he subject to the weather at all? In past games special characters were not supposed to die as they messed up or corrupted the game. Makes me wonder if this is a factor in sims 4 that may be responsible for triggering some of the issues some Simmers are getting in this game too. Where are their special protections? I would love to just see them protected like past special characters and not be subjected to regular sims deaths.
ETA_Just to add my sims have not had any freezing deaths either yet - but I have seen plenty of simmers who have seen many - there are numerous video's and stills of joggers and such. Doesn't seem right to me. - LatinaBunny7 years agoSeasoned AceI haven’t had any sims die from freezing yet, but it’s inconsistent on whether the Sims remember to change into their weather appropriate clothing or not. Most of the time, my Sims (as long as they’re not jogging) do react to the cold and I’ve seen some of them automatically switch to their cold clothing if they’re just standing outside. Other times, they (or NPC Sims) seem like they forget, lol.
So, yeah, this may need to be patched to be an automatic switch for all Sims. - oxfordsplice7 years agoNew VeteranI really love the pack, but the three things that are annoying:
1. For a pack that gave us (thank you, EA!) items with matching swatches, they still managed to mess it up so that there are one or two doors/windows that do not have matching counterparts.
2. The rotting leaf piles.
3. Issues w/screenshots. I know I can go into build mode to get better lighting, but if I've playtested the build and there's been rain, snow, or leaves, I have to go into play mode, build rooms around the rain/snow/leaf piles to delete them, and then go back into build mode to get that lighting. - Love love love love LOVE Seasons. The best EP by far joining Parenthood GP, Get Together and Jungle Adventure as, in my opinion, must have packs
The glitches aside (yes you rotting leaf piles which I can't whether you've been fixed or not yet), my biggest problem with Seasons is the lack of rainy day activities. I would like to have seen the game add in more indoor games and activities such as board games or more games for the card table. I know the other packs fulfil that but new bits would have been a nice touch.
