Opinion: Rather delay Arts and Craft for...

I'm wondering how many, if any, people would agree with me when I say I'd rather have this arts and crafts themed stuff pack delayed for a more fleshy generations expansion pack, similar to Sims 3?

My reasoning behind it is that most discussions I've seen are from people wanting the knitting to give their elders something to do. Which I agree, I don't care for elders but it could possibly be down to them really not having much in the way of gameplay.

I've been skim-reading the features included in Sims 3 Generations and I would much rather this than what I feel in my waters will be a really half-baked stuff pack, mainly because I find children and teens boring as heck as well, they don't really have much going for them.

Boarding schools! I really want boarding schools, and mix it in with seasons so they can come back on the holidays (or maybe a pop up option of if the parent will allow the kid to come back from school for the holidays, which can lead to a + or - relationship with the parents depending.) I also want things such as detention if the child slacks off in school, recognition for being the top of the class, a graduation system, valedictorian, school prom etc.

Walking canes back! But modify them so they can be used by anyone as an easy way to introduce disability gameplay to the Sims.

Bunk beds (Tiny Living you failed me there ;_; )

Spiral stairs and ladders ofc.

I don't hold out hope for a memory system being brought back in like Sims 2 and like it was in generations but... hey ho.

I know teens can have moodswings but how about midlife crises for adults bringing back, and maybe even a darkly humorous debuff for elders with something like "the grim is knocking" when they're getting closer to the end of their life? (I don't actually know what happens nearer death now as I always kick elders out to make way for the younger generations...) Retirement/Nursing homes!

Anyone else? Any other ideas? Or should I just give up hope with it and hope something like this gets implemented in Sims 5..........

And that Sims 5 isn't marketed as an online game.
  • Stuff pack development is separate from EP and GP development, from what I understand. EPs and GPs take a lot longer. It's not really a case of just bumping out a stuff pack for something else, they all have their own development cycles. That's just what I've learned at some point on here.

I liked Generations though as I remember, in the TS3 days, it was basically panned by the community. I didn't participate in the community then but I remember disagreeing. Parenthood has done really well so maybe we'll see a continuation of that.

My unpopular opinion is that I'm in favor of development for all the life stages. I probably prefer the YAs and adults compared to some other players. I play with kids but I really prefer growing them up. That said, yes, I'd be interested in more content that connects the generations of a family and more for teens. I enjoy the toddlers and kids but while I'd like more for them to do, if the game were to become all about them, I'd get bored.

As for knitting, there are a lot of reasons that people wanted it. In my case, I just wanted an activity in the arts and crafts theme. I'd prefer pottery or a pack for all of the arts and crafts. I didn't love the direction of every vote but now I'm still interested as long as we can make some interesting stuff and have a new hobby. Some of us want hobbies that the different generations can do together which is still a generational theme.

I've said this before but I'm not holding onto any hope or plan for TS5 at this time. I still don't understand why people think the answer is starting over again with all of the same packs. Regarding online play, no, I'm not interested.
  • No correlation. SPs, GPs, and EPs are all worked on by different teams. I want a Generations EP, but delaying the knitting pack won't make any EP come out any faster.

I wish they would stop making stuff games & just make lots of Expansion Packs & Gamepacks only.

All in all I may skip this SP as I am not happy playing Sims 4, there is no incentive for me to buy this pack.

Nah - it's a Stuff Pack. If we get a Golden Years Game Pack for Elders - which I would love - then it's easy enough to have, or pick up, the Stuff Pack as well. It's already in production and, while I am happy for it to take as long as it takes to get to the point where the team is ready to release it, I don't want it delayed until it can become a tiny part of a larger thing.

Sidenote here... I have to ask what really a "golden age pack" would contain. I am 47. My parents are now well within their upper 70's and they are... doing what they've always done, but without work getting in the way.
I feel like the classic grandma died (no pun intended) at least a generation ago, with my grandparents. This generation of elderly just do go on as usual; paint the house, walk the dog, listen to Led Zeppelin, binge watch Netflix and so on. The grandma with the knitting in the rocking chair that always had to pay for groceries with even 1 cent coins died 25 years ago, or earlier.

Anyway point is... what would an elderly pack contain?
  • No need to delay. The Next Gamepack which will be coming next may be a Generations Pack. The SP is still months away.
