Optimal plant splicing guide for efficiency?

Was wondering if there was a guide for splicing plants for optimal efficiency and if the host plant matters, have seen the one pdf guide on carls page but just curious as it doesnt have a full list of plants so far. Also it seems in the pdf that certain plants are being planted or created twice ie apple tree planted and then apple grafting onto another plant do you not get pomegranate again im a little confused

  • The grafting use to work, but after EA added Seasons to the game, it totally destroyed the grafting aspect of the game.
  • @LaBlue0314 grafting still works. I started playing with Seasons and GTW and have grafted. It still works @DizzyDi34 just slowly. I have only seen Carl's guide. Please post if you find another.
  • I haven't seen a good updated guide... I think it must be hard to put one out because people have different packs and additions gardening keep everything changing... as well as tweaking that has occurred along the way. The latest change was in the last patch on Nov 12th that increased rare and uncommon harvestable rates for splicing.... and Carl's site hasn't been updated yet to reflect that.

What I personally do is figure out what plants my played sim wants or needs to grow. My scientist will have a different garden than a sim that does flower arranging or my chef may focus on an edible garden ect...
Once I know what plants I want, I splice slower growing plants onto faster growing ones and try to make it so that I can have a full harvest about every 24 hours. I also always shelter plants in greenhouses, the sims home or outside in wrap around porches if I have the right wall height for it because messing around with growing things by season just isn't fun for me.

I'll keep an eye on this thread because I'd love to see if anyone has a more updated guide than Carl's.
  • What Hermitgirl says is right - the number of packs had grown since the game came out and it would affect the plants one has at their disposal.
Carl's guide has a small mod somewhere in the gardening section that brings the ratio of spliced plants into pre-Seasons levels so it's possible to use that if the recent patch isn't efficient enough.

And, as said, it's not just about the plants you have (depending on your pack combination) but also which plants you need - cooking will put a priority on fruits/vegetables, flower arranging on flowers, money-making on expensive stuff such as dragonfruit. All of that would affect what's the best way to graft + if you have Seasons installed - and if yes, planting inside/outside.

What I'd suggest is try to lurk around the gallery and search for words like 'garden' or 'greenhouse', there are some saying they have all the plants (within the list of included DLCs) so maybe grab a few, have a look if they're grafted and how.
