Oh, the + and - keys also should zoom in and out. Including the ones on the Numpad. If you need another option over on the other side of the keyboard. I doubt they will work for you atm though, seeing as z and x don't. Just as a future bit of info. :lol:
they don't work (the + or - neither set, not the number pad nor the ones that are also the equals sign and the underscore to the right of the 1-0 number row ). I'm trying to not fathom that my game is completely broken and nothing can fix it, and it all happened after an Origin update, but it's not happening to anyone else so some systemic cure isn't forthcoming.

Going to uninstall Origin and go play Steam for a while. Not ready to reinstall both Origin and Sims4 if that also does nothing and this problem is essentially intractable. Maybe I'll look back on this someday as the shove I needed to get Sims4 out of my life, but am not ready to celebrate that yet.
