In the past I've used cheats to alter body type. In my current game, when the mother completely lost any semblance of a figure after having 6 children (fair enough), I used a potion in the rewards store to make her "lean". Her eldest daughter has just aged up to teenager, however, and is quite overweight. I'm going to see if I can make a difference with a healthy diet and exercise.
I don't like to use cheats in any of my Sims 1-4. The only time I have used a cheat was in the Sims 1; I bought a bookcase to learn all the interests because I found that chatting to other Sims without the same interests would bring down the relationship; but I abandoned that after several EP's as I found other ways within the game to sort out the problem.
Hope you are able to play without "cheats" as it will probably make the game a lot more interesting and challenging for you. And yes there are things to get a Sim slim or fat with the science career. That is what makes the Sims fun and how you want to play it!
I did in one game my Sim give Bob Pancakes a slimming potion from the science career. I found it very funny to see him exercising down the gym frequently; he looked so different, but that was my Sim (and me) just experimenting LOL
