Why is it that when you own a business: Restaurant, Gallery, retail etc. your sims is Unemployed? Does this mean that the owner of EA Games is Unemployed ?? Is Bill Gates Unemployed??In Sims 3 there were business goals and financial goals...Now in Sims 4 when your sims runs their own business they are unemployed. When asked about their career they say that they are unemployed butactually they own a business...What gives??Any chance this can be changed....PLEASE!

It means that you can have a business and at the same time have a career or profession somewhere else. That's why retail is separated from the career system. You can own a restaurant but still work as a writer.

True enough, but owning a business should count for being employed. The thieves in DC think one is, so why not EA?

I simply would like it to be that if one chooses to not be part of the Career systemand rather own a business, e.g. Gallery. My Sims is not classed as Unemployed. They could have it say: Business Owner and the name of the Business underneath.EA Games / The Sims, has gone backwards since Sims 2, they offered so much varietywith Hobbies and Dancing in Sims 2, then the cut this from Sims 3 add other content,and then Cut that from Sims 4... Don't they learn from history? If you can't keep the previous game content going forward, then don't set your gamer's up for disappointment.!PLEASE EA GAMES FIX THE OWNING A BUSINESS SO THAT OUR SIMS ARE NOT UNEMPLOYED!{not shouting just trying to be heard}.

They could really do with a way to register as self-employed. Some of my sims make money in other ways without requiring a job and it would be nice for this option to be included.

I agree that they have to do something regarding this. Every time I'm at my retail flower shop I get date requests or invites from friends to do things but if you call a friend to do something you get a message saying they are at work, school or sleeping. I don't understand why they didn't create a place in owning your retail shop that allows you to set up working hours for the store & your employees.

Yeah, why isn't teaching a career? It was before wasn't it? I miss some of the buildings we used to have in the towns, like the supermarket, school, etc

Or arhaeologists with JA -- maybe you have a Sim who goes to dig up artifacts and sells them to finance their next trip, and writes books or paints on the side. (Before my Sim moved in Salim Benali then killed him off with bad pufferfish nigri >:) I had her painting to earn extra money.)

But if you want to have a successful retail store you have to be there -- you can't open it remotely like you can a restaurant. So if you have a regular job elsewhere and own a retail store, you're pretty much condemming your Sim to zero social life. :'(

All these ideas on self-employed are fabulous, if only EA/Maxis would hear us. They make the money and we wait for content and problem fixes...

I just wish that we could promote employees in retail or host/chefs/servers to manager/Assistant Manager so we didn't have to be there

I wish Sims could register as self-employed because it annoys me when a successful business owner with the Ambitious trait gets periodically Tense because they "don't have a job".

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it was in both Sims 2 and 3. I've been using Neia's mod for it recently because it was one of my most-wanted careers along with the Military. I've also got Architecture and Law. Definitely going to get this self-employed one though, and the business owner (I don't have the packs for the other options).

Neia's career mods are becoming as valuable to me as MCCC.

Yeah, I agree OP. It really annoys me that my self-employed Sim keeps getting a whim to get a job. My Sim owns a restaurant, a vet, & retail shop. I wont' put her in a career. They should have a self-employment option or something to satisfy whatever makes that whim keep coming back, over and over again.
