@PenguinFoop did you try clicking on the work icon (the briefcase)? You might have a "go to work" button there. Other than that I don't know what to tell you; it's been quite some time since I did paranormal but I think my sim just automatically went to the gig lot.
You could also try ending the vacation early & going home?
