Perhaps you could enable testingcheats true, then try using the following cheat and add the new relationship label instead
relationship.add_bit yoursimID targetsimID relationshipBit
Eg
relationship.add_bit yoursimID targetsimID guidedChild
This explains how to get the sim id for your sim and the target sim
