Partial DLC Simmers

Hey there, crazy kids! :)

I saw this question the other day in a random thread as an after-thought, and I wanted to post it (and variations of it) here:

Does anyone play Sims 4 with only SPs? Or only GPs? Or only EPs? Or without any of one of the pack types?

I know quite a few people will sort of 'mix-and-match' packs that fit them, if they don't get everything, but it's an interesting thought to wonder what playing the game would be like with only one type of pack. Just makes me curious.

Thoughts?

I mix and match. I usually always own the EP's except for in the sims 3 because I didn't really care to get Showtime and Into The Future. I also didn't really buy stuff packs for the sims either except for mansion and garden stuff in the sims 2 and the free stuff pack I got in the sims 3. This time around I own all EP's and GP's so far and only buy the stuff packs that interest me, and I only recently got Spa Day because it didn't really appeal to me at first. I guess it really just depends on what the pack offers and if I feel I'll get my money's worth from it.
  • I never felt the need to buy stuff packs for the Sims 2, and I'm feeling the same way with Sims 4. I'm more of an expansions/game pack person.

I'm super curious what it would be like to play this game with only the base and SPs. :D I guess you'd end up with some pretty expansive outdoor gardens at the very least. Eating some ice cream while your kids have fun on the big ol' water slide and your spouse checks on the real life voidcritter (anyone want a real life Pikachu?) :)

@TheGoodOldGamer if you really are that curious try this http://jamesturner.yt/disablepacks
  • No. I began this odyssey with Sims2. I loved it so much I had to have every EP and SP. With Sims3, I had more of a love/hate relationship with it, plus my computer had a RAM issue, so that I only purchased the first three SPs and all but Supernatural EPs. I wanted the additional interactions, hoping the ones I favored from Sims2 would be returned. I ended up modding Sims3 to the hilt, thanks to Twallen and his NRaas Industries. Even with the new DDR3 gaming rig, Sims3 had issues. I still don't pick and choose which EPs I'll play with as I end up losing Traits I often use, depending on which pack I leave out.

With Sims4, I promised to not spend another dime on the game if the base didn't 'wow' me. I now have everything but vampires, to date. I'm totally unsure of the new SP they're touting. I don't really desire a SP for a GP, as it seems a waste, but I'm not counting it out entirely. I also have this game modded. MCCC and Road to Fame. I miss the singer career bigly.
  • I only own three game packs (Outdoor Retreat, Spa Day, Dine Out) and one stuff pack (Movie Hangout Stuff) at the moment. I definitely want more DLC (financial issues that past several months :/) but I'm a pick-n-choose player no matter what my budget is, just like I was with TS3 (I didn't buy any stuff packs for TS3, just a handful of store purchases, and the EPs I had = Ambitions, Late Night, Generations, Showtime, Supernatural, Seasons, University Life). My next purchases will be Parenthood and City Living ASAP.

    Any EPs for S4?

I wish haha. My first EP will be City Living; ideally I'll be able to get it this month along with Parenthood.

Cool. I figured most people would get the EPs first but you've made some good choices so far. :) I'd recommend Get Together when you're looking for another GP to get down the line.

Thanks - I want Get Together as well. I would've gotten EPs first but timing + sales determined my purchases when I got into TS4 last year.
