I'm perfectly ok with it. Now had I bought the game at full price and a few weeks later it went free for everybody else, I'd be steaming mad!
But they've announced it way in advance, so anybody who has been on the fence (or waiting for a sale) has plenty of notice to wait and they will not have to spend a dime. Plus if anybody has a console and they'd like to also have it on that, they can for free as well.
Like @Simmerville stated, you could compare it to movie tickets vs the movie being offered on a streaming service a few years later.
I also thought to myself about how many times I have purchased an article of clothing or a pair of shoes for the same amount of money (and sometimes double the amount) for some special event or occasion and after that event was over they have sat in my closet for years and years and years and never worn again. I certainly wouldn't be upset if those same clothes were given away 8 years later.
