Considering the Sims 4 (including all the DLCs) I believe is coming up to cost nearly $1,000 in total if not already.

Yeah, base game being free isn't a big deal. Most of the time it's on sale for $5. The game is 8+ years old and has a ridiculous amount of (pricey) dlc. It's fine.
