Please revamp the whims!!

Why are the whims in Sims 4 so repetitive and shallow? I constantly get the "Cook pet food" or "Buy a pet ball" or "Buy a swimming pool at least 1X1" Sims 3's whims system was more in depth and made sense. There was a feeling of progression and they were well thought out. These are just nonsensical most of the time and seem to have no rhyme or reason. Who else agrees??

I'm glad it's up to the player to choose to follow them or not. Player choice is everything to me. If I was forced to follow whims/wants/wishes to avoid Sim depression or some other nonsense, I'd have to mod it out or something. That kind of thing really ruins my gameplay. That's worse than lists for events and such, as I'd have no say in it.

I think the idea of having a special type of whim - for bigger whims, where if you pinned them, and the sim didn't achieve them for a while, they would get sad (and if you completed them, you get more aspiration points than usual) -- but -- if you didn't pin them or deleted them, there would be no effect, could serve both type of players.

I hate the whims and tend to skip over them as they are meaningless. Now if they could combine the whims of TS3 and the wants/fears of TS2 then it might be better as there are consequences if things don't plan out right haha. This game is just becoming too easy to play and it doesn't have that level of difficulty that I found in the other TS games. I understand they want to bring something new to the game but why give us something like whims if there are no consequences if we don't complete it. It happens in real life so why not TS?

I sometimes get a craving for Oreos. I don't get sad if I don't get them though, lol. And at any given time, there are probably half a dozen build ideas floating in my head too, but if I don't get in game and build them, there's no consequences to speak of. I'd love to have a million dollars, but I'm not suddenly more poor because I don't have it. Whims are just whims, irl.

I might go to the store for the Oreos. I might go in game to build. I might go play the lottery to try to win it big. But if I don't? lol

I could go with that. I've said before, I like toggles and player choice. :)

I agree with that but if I understand it correctly the TS2 system isn’t that rigid fortunately. There are more circumstances necessary to make it a problem and those circumstances I take it are very much player driven. And I do like it when I could drive my sim into depression if I’d want that. I think that might be why people praise the fears system (I’m not familiar with that feature as a player, when I played 2 those fears were just sitting there, me just avoiding them).

    :o

    Gets me everytime. :D <3

Lol :D You know, one day, maybe, they’ll develop a game we can both love and then we will find ourselves constantly side by side. Wouldn’t it be lovely if that would go for the entire fanbase...

Toggles. Lots of toggles. I really don't think there's a way they can make a Sims game you and I both like relatively equally otherwise, lol. But that would be a dream to have, yes.
  • Maybe it will take a creative modded fix it.

I totally would buy a Whim stuff pack which makes it more like ts3 whim.

I absolutely vote for toggles, but I wouldn’t say it isn’t possible they make a Sims game we both could like. It would be too off topic to eleborate on that here, but I think simmer’s wishes might be more united than we think. Sure I have my wish list and so do you (I did like the list of what you came up with for your sims you shared a while ago). A game with large neighborhoods divided in sections (no loading screens) and a proper cleaning system to avoid routing issues, lively sims with memories and balanced, realistic emotions, a CASt system with enough good looking preset options to choose from for those who don’t need that in their games, I can’t see how anyone could dislike such a game.
  • Problem with toggles, is that Developers are just allergic to them so hence why they are yet to be created. Let it be through technical (lol, what kind of engine can't handle basic BINARY) or personal reasons (I would like to know the reasons for that If it were the case). I swear to god If there were ton of necessary toggles, there wouldn't be much split and divide in our community. Abduction/Break-in nerf, lot traits locking (couldn't they simple be assigned as defaults instead?), supernatural toggles, etc. and etc. I just find that addition to be practical to please both sides and making all sort of players on win&win terms.

In one of your recent posts (I forget where, sorry), you said you wanted the art style of the next game to be more like Sims 3 again. While I wouldn't mind the more realistic look of the world itself and the items in it to be more that way, if the Sims aren't vastly different in their appearance than in S3 that would be a no-go for me there alone. And no, I play vanilla so slider mods and cc aren't going to solve that, lol.

Cartoon style aside, there's something more relateable to me about S4 Sims appearances. Maybe it's the facial structure, maybe it's something else. I know that's a bit of a sore spot around here, depending on where your preferences land, but it is a major factor. And one we really don't land on, lol.

Anyways, back to the whims. (Thanks for the side thoughts, btw.) I do agree that once you complete a whim, it should be on a delay for awhile. Maybe the simplist one would be they reset at midnight or something, I dunno. Maybe the timer is cut in half for if you cancel them out with the x. And we definitely need more variety, perhaps based on packs installed or something, I dunno. But the overall system itself as is, I like. They just repeat too often, imo.

Mjah.. like Sims 2 and 3, meaning: stylized but with surfaces looking like the material it's supposed to represent (wood, rock, fabric, skin). I don't like everything to look like rubber. But I assure you that if they create a game that offers great gameplay and sims with in depth personalities etc, with the rubber art style, I'd play that game and being a bit unhappy about the art style for me wouldn't be a deal breaker. When I fell in love with Sims 3 I played it on medium settings and that looked pretty bad. I never cared ;) As for the sims: I'd love Sims 3's texture and Sims 4/TSmedieval CAS possibilities. We're talking about a next game, not a copy of Sims 3 or 4. For all we know they have a completely different, new art style in store for us we can't even imagine right now. I love my own sims in 3 but I'm not a fan of the basic puffy look they get so easily. I wouldn't object if they'd improve that.
