Point of preorder?

Not for Sims 4. It had early downloading only for the base game, and that wasn't playable early.

For me personally,pre-ordering is nice so I can just buy the game now and not worry about having the money on release day. Also like others have said,you can avoid the chaos of release day where servers could go down or errors can happen.

I don't tend to pre order unless I have an incentive in game to like free content. I also don't preorder without seeing game play footage and having more information. Once bitten, twice shy.

I was just curious and went over to the store to look at the pre-order price and... HOW MUCH?!!! :o

Since when did they hike the price by £5? Last time I bought an EP it was £29.99, not £34.99. That definitely decides the situation for me, there is no way I am paying £35 for a Cat & Dog only EP. I will wait for a sale.

In the pre-orders I have done - they do let you download early, but they won't activate the game until a set time. So you do avoid server issues and such. I have never gotten a server issue just by pre-ordering. Come game day they also generally seem to activate the game a few hours earlier too. My last pre-order - which was a while ago - I recall the game was activated around a little after 3 am of the release day. So I was able to play the game hours earlier than people who did not pre-order. I am on the northern East Coast ( Maine, USA).

But it was nice not to have any delays or to get into any server slow down issues. So yes - there is some advantages to pre-ordering if they still allow you to download 10 or so hours before release time. I have really fast internet so my downloads are always fast as long as EA's servers don't get bogged down by so many gamers downloading games. So with a pre-order I can avoid that issue - that is provided they still allow early down-loading. As I said it has been a long time though since I pre-ordered.


Also keep in mind several of EA's big games are also releasing that week too - with the new Need for Speed Payback also releasing on the 10th of November. Star Wars Battlefront releasing on the 14. So there may be server bog downs to contend with.

To the one saying the price increased - not so - all eps have been 39.99 here and the Dogs and Cats is also 39.99. So no increase here in the States anyway. Same price.

Name me someone Here that is actually a fan of Sims 4 - not getting an expansion? Really the new world is enough to make anyone buy it regardless - we need more lots - the rest is just icing on the cake. Personally if you do not care very much for Sims 4 - I can see you might need reviews - but people who play the game and like it enough need space - period - a new world is all the review the game needs to be honest.

But also some of us are following very closely all that is going on at the Gamescom - plenty of live reviews going on - what your problem?

I really don't see anyone in my family of which now make up 32 simmers, waiting for a review - they are going nuts they need to wait until November as it is. LOL. You can pre-order up until the day before release. I generally pre-order if I plan to pre-order the week before release so I can pre-download when EA sends me the email I can.

This is what I will be doing. I saw the price and nearly chocked on my coffee. I know its the only EP we have had this year, but it is still very expensive.

Preordering in general has a lot of baggage attached, due to people having experiences with games where they preordered and then the game was a buggy mess on release, or just failed hard to live up to expectations. But that's more a problem with releases and setting expectations than it is with preordering. The way I see it, preordering is essentially allowing the customer to say, "I trust you enough to deliver a good product that I will take this product the second it is available." For those who would rather jump into a product and try it for themselves, rather than stand back and sift through reviews, preordering is just an extension of that approach to trying a product; it allows the customer with that kind of mindset to bypass the hassle of ordering based on the company's schedule, rather than their own; with preordering, they can order when they have the time to do it and then the game will be available to them without hassle the moment it's released.

And this mindset, though it might seem odd to those of us who are commonly skeptical and cautious about what we buy, it makes more sense in the context of a game like this, years in, with lots of DLC (as opposed to a brand new title); by this point, if you've been following the game since its release (or close to it) and you don't already trust Maxis to deliver on the expectations they set, you're probably never going to for TS4. For those for whom that trust is established, it makes perfect sense for them to want to preorder when they can, for content that appeals to their wants, since they already have a high level of confidence that they are going to be satisfied.

It must be something to do with your country then - as they will not increase a base price of some countries and not others. But you are right about one thing, it will probably eventually go on sale as most eps do in most all of the game companies. I know the Aussies have always had to pay more but it was their country making the price higher - not EA.

I feel for those guys though - for sure.

Prices of EP's going up was announced shortly after Brexit. Alot of games on Origin and Steam went up a few pounds. It's a shame but that's a result of Brexit. Apple's prices also went up etc.
