Front load washers are way more common in the US than they used to be, but you still see a lot of top loaders, especially in rentals (they're cheaper, or have been).
@JesseJay I see what you're saying with the two units being identical, but if you look at modern washer/dryer sets, the two pieces are often virtually identical. They couldn't put one of everything in the game, so it seems like a valid choice. Plus, front loading high efficiency washers are, dare I say it, more eco-friendly than the older top loaders which typically use a lot more water I can't believe I'm spending this much time thinking about fake laundry machines.
