I haven't played any households that have a butler or a maid working for them yet, I just want to make sure they will use the vacuum.
The vacuum has to be in a sims inventory to be used autonomously. So I think they coded it into maids inventory since they don’t live in the household and often sims aren’t home when they arrive so by already having it in inventory they can use it autonomously. But since butlers are in your household all the time you have ample opportunity to add it to their inventory through gifting it to them, in fact it’s the only way since you can’t access their personal inventory otherwise.
This is also how you prevent sims from autonomously cleaning at community lots or to prevent neat sims from obsessively cleaning over all else. Live drag the vacuum out of their inventory. They can’t use it autonomously if it not in their “pocket”. :)
