After reading about so many people feeling lost without their old identity, or finding old friends, having only recognised them before by their avatar, I thought maybe we should have an avatar thread to identify each other, or to make yourself feel more at home again. (also with any old username)

I just wanted to chime in that this is something we're looking to bring back when we can. Now, I'm not promising you anything because we're still in the weeds technically with the forum host on what will be possible (and exploring a few options on our side as well), but we're aware of how important your forum identities are to you.

How can this be a technical issue? It's a very odd design choice that I personally fail to understand.
If EA truly cared about its gaming community and had done the slightest bit of research, this would have never been a problem. Custom avatars would be the default and some of the other forum limitations wouldn't even exist.
The easiest, most straight forward solution is to unlock access to the avatar editor for everyone, so that it is not only limited to heroes and moderators. It's that simple. Even that as a temporary solution is better than nothing. Just unlock it. Potential security risks should have been taken into consideration during early backend development. I don't know what else the problem could be other than potential security risks. If this was a robust and stable platform this could be fixed within a week or possibly sooner.
There is no good reason for it to be this way and it's unfair to the simming community, especially to the veterans who have been part of almost every Sims forum since the birth of the franchise. I'm not even one of them and I feel ignored.
This is the offical forum now, plus the avatar concern was raised a long time ago in February, on the old forum, when it was announced it would be replaced with this new (simmer non-friendly) forum.
I don't believe any concerns we had half a year ago were really taken on board by whoever is hosting or designed this forum. The fact that the team is only now exploring as to whether or not certain features will be possible in the future (?!), tells me that this forum was never actually built for us, or with us in mind. (Sigh, I believe this was the 637th time I said this).
Sadly people are leaving because the place is difficult to navigate, and seeing all these similar avatars makes it even harder and more confusing for many. It doesn't feel personal. People should be having abit of fun on a forum, not feel stressed or confused due to its poor design. There are good things about this forum for sure, but right now the positive is overshadowed by the negative, in my opinion.
I choose to remain optimistic however, and I really hope this and other issues e.g. lack of pagenumbers etc. will be solved very very very very Soon™.
100% agree, and while I really do appreciate the effort to return our avatars, I also would like to point out that we had organized subforums so that we could actually navigate the topics and discussions we wanted to be a part of. Now, there are so many things lumped together that we have to scroll down endlessly, with the site resetting the page to the top, plus lack of tags, that it's extremely difficult to find what we're looking for. It feels like there's no rhyme, reason or logic to it, as if nobody affiliated with the Sims community had even a smidgen of input.
Also, while we lack proper subforums for topic organization, we have two subforums dedicated to bug reports and technical issues, yet we're expected to use Answers HQ for those things. How about giving Off Topic it's own segment back and adding a Packs and/or Feedback section. Unless, for some reason, EA wants game issues here now? But why take up two entire subforums?
Finally, I hope that better forum stability is in our future, as well as not having to log in every single time I return to look at a thread.
Just a thought, if you have any suggestions as to how we can be better heard by EA, or tips for using these forums, can you pin them in a post, please? 🙂

Mcrudd here and old forums. This was my default avatar, I would change it with special holidays and new pack announcements, but this was used most of the time

Hello, I'm PandoraTO here, and I was PandoraTO back there! I was not on the old forum for long, compared to most people here. But I did enjoy my time there... whenever I wasn't banned, lol.
TBH, I don't really like this new forum, and so far we have no indication that any action will be taken on our feedback about it. So, I don't know how long I'll be around waiting for that to happen. For now, it's just one day at a time for me.

My personal avatar is a portrait of my identical twin brother's simself - not as good looking as me ofcourse, that's why I use him. I only post my simself avatar at Winterfest when I get to wear a Father Winter hat. Hopefully we can all have our own, proper avatars wearing Father Winter Hats this Winterfest. 🤞🏻

I'm logion, I managed to get almost the same name here on the forums, I had to add an X at the end so I guess I'm trendy just like twitter...
Anyway, this was my avatar on the old forums which is my simself. It's replaced now by Mia Hayes, it's the avatar I use on Answer HQ.
I don't dislike the new forums as much as I thought, but they need to add custom avatars for everyone. They should also get rid of the site logging you out if you are idle. I also don't really understand why there is a bug reporting section when we have Answer HQ, the main page is flooded with bug reports.

I'm Simmerville like before, and I was lucky to have my forum id transferred with no problem. My old avatar is quite random and old from the TS3 era, so I would have updated it if I could. The yellow dot is probably the most important, as it also reflects my blog. And I was happy that the new forum actuaklly (randomly) handed be a yellow round gem for a starter avatar - unfortunately that was replaced with a face from a game I never ever played...
I recognize most users by their name, but I do sometimes mix them up, LOL. So, the custom avatars would have been a great plus. That said, there's plenty of other improvements that I would applaud even more, like (re-) loading times of threads and the Most Liked sorting which is a nightmare when you revisit long threads and only want to see the new stuff. But hey-ho.
You can click on the arrow next to most liked, and you can change the sorting to newest, oldest as well instead of most liked.
On topic, I was known as Colorist40 on the old forums, but I was more a lurker than a participant. I used pictures I have colored, but the one I was using, I can no longer find. But it was a picture of a leopard.
Usually I had some variation of Morgyn Ember or Oberon as my avatar. This was the last one I was using before the forum switch.
And this is the one of Oberon I used most.
I miss using this avatar or a variant of it. The username is the same. I miss the old forum, this one doesn't feel comfortable or user-friendly.
