I too hate the system, though luckily it's rarely things I care about so I'll live. In the rare instances where I have cared I've been able to buy the content on CDKeys for next to nothing, so I haven't been left out. Still, it's annoying that there should be this "bonus" just as it's annoying that you need to earn the right to have an avatar or log in x number of times to get the reward like they did this summer.
To be honest, I'm fine with timed events when they happen like the summer festivals they did. An event, in game, that plays out over a particular timeframe and if you're not on you're not on, but anyone who is can join in (I'd like more of those to be honest). I just don't like it when it's items in game that are at stake, and all of these idea that I have to earn the privilege to pay for the game.
You mean an avatar for the forums? That’s wild. I work and it drives me to a different city every month or two. So, I don’t have time to get the packs as they often line up with me being gone. They often get announced and the pre-order starts just after I leave. When I get back, the pack is already released. Timing for me is perfect. I get a week or two of uninterrupted gaming! But… I miss out on the pre-order stuff because I cannot.
I’m on PC, so I can just get CC for them. But the console players are poorer for it and, well, I hate using B/B CC as I like uploading houses.
Time restricted events don’t make sense in a single-player life sim. I’m not sure what EA is doing.
