I generally buy before the bonus time is up, but I do not always get the bonus items anyway - it depends on where I buy from. But I am fortunate at the moment to be able to afford to make the decision as to whether I want to pay full price or not (ie. buy from EA with the bonus items or buy from a discounted store without).
I think I would be pretty upset if I was watching my pennies and not only had to wait to be able to afford the pack whilst others were already playing it, but also miss out on the extra items too. It would feel like I was being penalised for being poor. I think it would be fairer if they made it that people could have the bonus items any time they purchased, so long as they purchased directly from EA.
Not sure what 3rd party site you use. But some offer the bonus items. I know instant gaming does because I bought For rent from there and got it.
