Sulani hasn't fared as well, unfortunately. Its population has severely dwindled over the last 3 generations. I need to find Polynesian sims to repopulate it. So yes, I for one do care. I don't want all my worlds to be generic; if the devs went to the trouble to establish these worlds as representative of certain places and peoples,
That's pretty much where I'm coming from too. Those specific worlds arrived with a pretty specific cultural identity and losing it seems a travesty as it turns them into just "more of the same". Some replies here are alluding to it being about "appearances" but "culture" is about far more than that and, imo, it adds to those worlds that they have that cultural identity.
I think maybe you mean me by mentioning "appearances", so I want to explain. My approach to the game is that it isn't the real world and that a Sim may not "look" a certain ethnicity, but if they're born in that world and live their entire lives there then that Sim is also culturally familiar with that world and can participate in all of that. As someone who is kind of global and knows a lot of "third culture" kids/adults, I don't like this idea that Mt. Komorebi is only a place for Japanese-looking Sims (when in my game Japan doesn't exist at all). To me, any Sim can be born there (or maybe even migrate there) and live that life. It's the same for Sulani. I don't know how else we can say a Sim (which is not a real person) has a certain culture unless we're talking about aesthetics. I can give any Sim in Sulani the Sulani traits or have them participate in Sulani traditions. With the occult worlds, it makes more sense to me, but I don't mind visual diversity at all for worlds like Mt. Komorebi.
