Prices

Is it just me or does anyone else feel that the expansion packs are too expensive for what we are getting? The stuff packs and game packs can be a little overpriced at times too but the expansions are extra pricey. $50 CAD is too much, I would pay $35 or even $40 but with a lack of content and the complaints against Island Living I don't want to buy it at that price (I probably will anyway unfortunately).

p.s. does anyone know about when the sales happen, another thing i've noticed is that origin doesn't have sales very often or they are very select.

  • Only a couple weeks back they had a sale with 40-50% off all titles. I think it lasted until IL release.
  • Yes, too expensive for what we get. I always end up buying eventually, I play for a couple hours hopeful that the pack will improve the game, but it rarely does. This weekend I saw Island Living at Target, put it in my cart, but remembered that I am currently playing Assassin's Creed Oddessy, hundreds of hours of gameplay, and still excited for more. I took IL out of my cart, decided I will wait for a sale.
  • It's worth it if it's content I want. I would rather spend my money on a game instead of going out to eat or or going to a movie this paycheck. I always try to budget something for myself. I have not made up my mind if I am buying island living yet or not. I have to watch some more you tubers playing it/reviewing it.
  • Some packs are worth the price imo and some aren't. I feel like Get Famous could have been 30 USD but it has a lot of good CAS items that I use prettynuch every time I play. All the gamepacks seem fairly priced to me. I don't know about stuff packs since I don't have any.
  • Thank you all for the replies! It's great to see everyone's opinions on the price. I do agree with lots of the points and it's great to know that the expansions are cheaper to buy from walmart or best buy (kind of strange though, you think ea would want you to buy from them)
  • I think they are fairly well priced, but I also don't see them as a per item cost - I think of it more in terms of how much enjoyment I'll get out of it. Hours of entertainment? Years of entertainment? Considering I played Sims 2 from its release to roughly 2 years ago, I expect I'll get plenty of enjoyment out of Sims 4 and its packs. Unless Sims 5 somehow blows me out of the water, of course.
  • As an initial player of sims that first began playing S2 at a friends house and then did not have the time to look at the game again until several years later when S3 series had started I simply bought every pack and all the store content when it was released as I could afford to and because I had never played another PC game before so had no comparison to any other PC game regards pricing/packs or how to judge if what I was paying for with Sims could be considered reasonable or a rip off lol I have not played the S4 series of the game as much as 3 (then 2) but it appears to me we got way more content with 3 as long as our PC specs were accommodating enough to be able to play with all that lovely content we were buying and after a frustrating first initial start with the S3 series after making sure my PC could accommodate this series/content I realized personally I wanted any and all content that was available for my game to add the depth of gameplay that I liked.

All that said I am not sure if we are paying anymore for our content with series 4 V content packs at the sims 3 store but as I personally consider the sims games (all of then since 1-4) one of my only personal/game loves/addictions I will continue to buy unless something goes very badly wrong with a series completely (as it nearly did with 4 in the beginning) because there appeared to me so much missing from previous game series but I have continued to purchase 4 because in the scheme of things my own personal enjoyment I get from all things sims (including 4) far outweighs what friends of mine would spend on other things so I consider what I spend on sims games peanuts compared to other things I could spend my money on for what I get in return so consider it a worthy personal expenditure so while I am not making excuses for what may be lacking in 4 compared to past iterations of the game the sims overall is my love of all things gaming so despite any personal preferences or complaints about the game I have I will continue to purchase because overall I love the sims games so much I will continue to play despite the differences/bugs between different series of the game because I cannot stop playing <3 :)
