Pricing for dlc's!

Why is everything ridiculously over priced? EA is just milking their franchises. It's a successful game so dlc's are released, but then you charge us $40 for the the ones that are actually good and give a new play experience. I remember when dlc's used to cost way less then this for any game with the same amount of stuff you put out. Even the $10 ones are a bit over priced. I think $20 for your big dlc's and maybe do $5-$10 for your smaller ones. You'll still make profit and honestly you'd probably make more money because people can actually buy those dlc's.

  • I don't know whether there's good justification for it, but part of the deal with video game content and pricing is, you vote with your wallet. If it bothers you enough, then the loudest way to let them know is to not buy the product. Enough people do this and they will eventually get the message.

    BUT...

In many cases, there are enough who are a-ok with buying at full price that the companies never will "get the message" that you might want them to get. Personally, while I certainly wouldn't want the price to go up even more, my two major complaints with DLC in general are 1) when companies remove working content prior to release so they can repackage it as DLC and 2) when the DLC is not only a high price but the effort put into it feels like a team of underpaid developers were given a week to slap something together.

So far my experiences with Sims 4 DLC have been pretty good. But I bought most of it on sale too. I'm just too frugal to be paying full price for all of it.

I'm fairly certain game prices have gone up some over the years, but I'm not actually sure how much because traditionally, I bought most of my games (or when I was really young, somebody in my family bought one) at a very cheap price after the game had been out for years. Buying stuff on release, or within a certain time frame of its release, is always going to be more expensive. It's just a question of how expensive.

Does that mean the people who create it should work for nothing? I mean Maxis does have to hand out paychecks.

I actually prefer the TS3 store. Now when packs come out it's an all or nothing decision. If I like one item out of a pack I still have to take the whole thing. That means more and more content that I'll never use just piles up in my game. That would also change the cost. One item vs a pack is a big difference.
  • I think the Stuff Packs are priced decently.
You have to take into account that people need to be paid for their work, they need to pay for advertising and in the end still make profit.
New Animations, clothes, furniture (which aren't just recolors of already existing ones) need to be designed and created.

Expansion Packs are something else though...
