Professions vs Careers

Aside from the 4 active careers, Sims 4 has 12 professions that let you work from home. It just occurred to me yesterday that instead of working from "home" I could make a law office by the pier for my lawyer sim, a school for my teacher sim, a trendy hangout for my art critic/stylist/social media Sims, and a town hall for my politician sim.

I can also use groups to make "co-workers" show up. And since it's not a retail lot they own, I can use all the unlocked objects or not, based on my storytelling.

This might have been super obvious, but not to me. I'm off to build 12 profession lots for each of the semi-active professions!

This is brilliant! I also really like the cafe idea.

Just because I have to work from home IRL doesn't mean my Sims have to!!

    So true.

I do the same thing!!! Its a lot more fun to do this rather than stuck spamming the same interactions at home. I've even been making generic lots in each neighborhood/world with "office" suites so that my sims with the work from home option can travel there to do there thing. Besides its fun to covert an old ugly build into a better one. I took one of the Karaoke bars in City Living (I think its Waterside Warble-the one where there 's individual little rooms with a karaoke set in each and a huge second floor with nothing but empty space.
Back when we got Ecoliving, I set it to Generic and deleted all the karaoke sets and then went a bit overboard with decorating. There's an office for my lawyers, engineers, civil engineers, stylists, and a daycare area etc on the second floor.
Then I have some more fun store fronts on the first floor including a bakery, coffee shop, brewery (room with a juicing machine), salon, and a laundromat. There's a lot of items from the Ecoliving pack to do outside such as the market place tables.
I like to send my sims there to complete their work from home duties. Its also fun for club hangouts and date nights.

I changed this building a bit to, to add a scout room on top, and a laundromat and toddler area on the bottom. Also, I think a swing set and sand box to the side.

@sarabeth2984 .... when you make a community market space will it open up all food stands you have there? This is a cute lot.

Food stands work on community spaces but I think some of them only work according to a schedule so they may not be open some days.

Thankyou @crocobaura, I didn’t realize you could use more than 1.

@SheriSim57 I like what you did with your lot! I have the same problem. There's only so many lots you can use as a generic lot. I wind up adding a building to whichever park, such as in Newcrest, to add my career offices.
I like the idea of what you did with Waterside Warble! Its actually one of my favorite lots in San Myshuno. The building has ample room upstairs and has such a weird layout, that you can adapt it for any number of builds.
I agree with @crocobaura I think only some of the food stands will work according to a schedule. Some are seasonal so that can have an effect too. But I have generally found that at least one or 2 will spawn vendors if you have multiple.
The community lot setting is great for these career builds too! Especially if you add all the items to the build so you can switch between different lot types (market stalls vs community garden vs maker space vs generic etc.

I will switch to a generic lot for this kind of build if I'm playing a career sim. Sometimes the community center lot spawns so many NPCs who manically use all the items you may need, it can be difficult to finish daily tasks. Although community center lots are fun to visit if you are traveling with a group of friends or a family of sims. They can be dynamic and great place for screenshots, meeting other sims, or watching wacky interactions :)

I'd love to see some of you Generic Lot/career/community lot builds too!

I have a couple of them on the gallery under #SheriSim and #SheriSim57. I’ll try to see if I can find the name of the science building. There is also the cutest western ghost town I downloaded long ago..... I have it as a lounge, I am always changing around other lots a bit, using their shell, and keeping pretty much their style intact. I have no imagination or creativeness when it comes to actually building the outsides of lots, but so many of you do!
