Maybe they actually are all in one school. In real life, the school in the very small town where I grew up was kindergarten through 8th grade all in one building. The main reason we didn't also have the 9th through 12th graders there was that we didn't have enough budget for more teachers. There were only about 100 students in the whole school. As a kid, I thought this was completely normal.
