Cooking cakes is tied to the Gourmet Cooking skill (levels 1-8). Look for the "Cook Wedding Cake..." interaction on fridges and stoves. They don't require ingredients, but can still be made even with the Simple Living lot trait on (tested on Retail lot).
Cakes can be sold to bakeries (same interaction from Cupcake Machine) for cash and Fame. The sale price increases based on skill level/quality and possibly Fame level too. My test sim is maxed and 5-star famous and could sell the first cake she made (Excellent Cupcake Wedding Cake) for 477 (402 profit). This is a viable skill based career.
There are various shapes and retextures of wedding cakes, with different fillings, but only one filling per cake.
Fillings include:
White layer cake with cream
White layer cake with cream and jam
Chocolate layer cake with cream
Chocolate layer cake with chocolate filling
Red velvet layer cake with cream
Rainbow layer cake with cream
Fruitcake
Other cake notes:
Plasma Cake is NOT Vampire-Safe, so no mass food poisoning at weddings with this one. :'(
There are NO Lactose Free cakes.
Cupcake Wedding Cake servings are cake slices, not a cupcake in sight.
You CAN'T add Birthday Candles to these cakes. However, you don't have to have a wedding topper so can still use them as regular cakes if you want. (I need to check if they fulfil Eat Cake task for parties).
Full cakes and single slices are giftable.
Each cake has only 8 servings/slices (I was expecting at least 12).
Single slices CAN be sold via the displays or Lice Cold Freezer, however the sale price is currently zero. Unfortunately the full cakes don't fit in the retail displays. (I recommend getting the Fresh Chef trait to preserve them and displaying on tables/podiums/tiered displays made with platforms). You can fit them in by shrinking them down (1x for 2-tier cakes, 2x for the rest).
