• What exactly the pack offers especially in these areas and if there are any issues with the performance of these features.
I mostly play with the science career but do rotate through the detective and medical career also. In the science career the main bug I have is the plants growing so you basically have to grow a science garden at home or buy seeds until you get the plant you need to finish doing the serums. The plants don't work well because of the 5am spawning time ... your sims aren't at work at that time. My plants seem to bloom once and that's it. I haven't played it for like a month because of the new pack so if there is a change I don't know about it.
• How much impact the illness system will have, or if there is an option to turn it off.
I don't see much impact now at all. I don't know if it's mostly because I have "healthy" sims. They exercise and eat low fat mostly... but also they live alone so maybe mine just have less chance of getting sick. Anyway you buy medicine or drink juice or green tea and rest when it happens. It passes.
• How frequent alien abductions are and if there is a way to avoid them.
Alien abductions seem to be linked to both the science career and if you are playing with or friending aliens. You can build the satellite dish as a scientist as pointed out earlier. If you're fast you can cancel them going to look at the strange lights outside, but not sure how well that works if you play multiple sims in a household. Mine seem to either be abducted a lot or not much at all. I usually want it though.. rather than trying to stop it.
• If there are any major bugs and glitches with Get to Work.
I don't run into any that aren't easy to work around.. that said I've never run a retail business. I just send my sims to shop at them.
Sometimes .. rarely for me.. you can't get something done at your job, so your performance for that day may suffer, but you get promoted pretty easily overall either way. I find that if you want to get promoted you can finish the promotion requirements then just send the sims in alone so you don't mess it up somehow when on the job. I usually send my sims in to work actively though. I just like doing it.
Never had a pregnant mermaid so no clue on the last question..
