I don't really know how the social compatibility works.
But, the conversation topics have an effect in gameplay. If you tell a joke to a sim who dislikes jokes, it negatively impacts their relationship. If two sims like the same topic, talking about it makes relationship gain increased.
Not sure if/how it impacts compatibility though.
Yeah, the main thing I see is that conversation topics affect how successful is the interaction on that sim. Sims that like it accept it more while sims that dislike it reject it more.
It does not affect the social compatibility score though.
