It depends if you have your settings set to auto update your games. I am not sure what it is set to by default.
When you open the app you should see it begin updating or it will say there is an update waiting to be installed. In my experience it will do all the patches so you don't need to worry, just make sure you wait until it is fully done.
I haven’t got it on auto update fingers crossed for me then thank you Evee95?
